Now that the weather is finally cooling down, make sure you bring a reusable cup when you go to get hot chocolate or coffee!

Waste Use a Reusable Water Bottle
While water bottles are needed for health and safety in certain places, we can do more to reduce the unnecessary use of them. What are the barriers to you using reusable bottles and tap water instead of bottled water? How could you make this a permanent habit?

Some places do not have clean water or metal tasting water which is sometimes hard to drink. I am fortunate enough to live somewhere hat provides water fountains and I own a water purifier. I always use a reusable water bottle.

    Waste Use a Reusable Mug
Maybe you've heard how good it is to switch from a single use coffee cup to a reusable one, but it's just hard to make the switch. What stands in your way of making this a habit? By identifying the challenges, you can begin to work through them to have better success in taking this action. Knowing the difference you are making, how does it make you feel?

I have a favorite mug for my coffee. Sometimes I forget to wash it and I rush out and have to use a plastic one. I should wash it every night so I do not forget. Using a reusable cup is a small but important action to reduce my waste.

I want to check in as we reach the middle of October and the middle of this challenge! I have been particularly enjoying trying to use locally sourced foods, which has given me the opportunity to make some super yummy meals! Using some of my eco-challenges, such as the printing double-sided paper challenge, has helped get my co-workers involved with this event :) I am excited to keep going!

Food Buy From a Farmers Market
What is one food choice that you make, or could make, that would do more good and less harm?

Farmers markets are such a fun place to go!  Yes, it's early morning on a Saturday, but it's worth it!  I work at a farmers market as a fun side gig, and I get to opportunity of picking fresh, organic, and healthy produce while I'm there!  I definitely understand where cost could be an issue, especially for college students, people with large families, or really anyone on a budget. If you're an individual, I think buying a few essential items that you know you need (e.g. leafy greens, roasting vegetables) that will last you the week is a good way to start switching healthier items into your life while supporting our local farmers and community.  There's also minimal-no packaging involved when you purchase from a farmer's market (especially if you bring your own bags!!).
