REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Use a Reusable MugMaybe you've heard how good it is to switch from a single use coffee cup to a reusable one, but it's just hard to make the switch. What stands in your way of making this a habit? By identifying the challenges, you can begin to work through them to have better success in taking this action. Knowing the difference you are making, how does it make you feel?
Emily McQuarter 10/17/2019 10:13 AMThe biggest challenge for me is having to wash my cups rather than throwing them away and easily grabbing another one. By washing directly after use, it is easier to clean. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Find Local Recycling DepotsOur ability to recycle certain things ebbs and flows based upon many factors. Luckily there are places that accept uncommon things to recycle or dispose of in a less harmful way. What did you find when looking for places to recycle items that can't be recycled in your curbside bin?
Emily McQuarter 10/17/2019 10:12 AMI found a local recycling plant that will take my large or unusual unwanted items for a low cost. We used it to get rid of our old broken couch, and paid less than $40! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Go PaperlessReducing your paper mail can be such a freeing action to take -- by reducing what is coming in, you can reduce what is going into the recycling bin too. How does it make you feel? What is the next step you will take to reduce your waste?
Emily McQuarter 10/17/2019 10:11 AMIt feels amazing! I will get so much less junk mail, and it is easier to track my bills online anyway. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEnergy Choose LED BulbsChanging lightbulbs is an excellent first step toward energy efficiency! In what other ways can you exercise your civic duty to protect the environment and reduce carbon emissions?
Emily McQuarter 10/17/2019 10:07 AMI chose an energy-efficient low carbon car, but I also walk to work and rarely drive. Not everyone can make those changes, but they have been great for me. I also take shorter showers, and make sure not to leave the lights or appliances on when not in use. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunity Join my Neighborhood AssociationHow can your community support inclusive decision making?
Emily McQuarter 10/17/2019 10:06 AMWe can rally together to make decision making platforms more accessible to everyone. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Reduce Animal ProductsWhy do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our planet and other people?
Emily McQuarter 10/17/2019 10:05 AMThe energy needed to process meat plants contributes heavily to pollution. I think we eat more meat because its readily available. However, I have been loving my meatless meals, can never get enough pasta! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportation Drive LessHow has your access to various kinds of transportation throughout your life influenced your current attitudes about transportation and your transportation behavior?
Emily McQuarter 10/17/2019 10:04 AMAll my life we have primarily used a car and never used public transportation. Moving on-site has been great because I now walk to work! I fill my gas tank probably only every 6 weeks, and get more exercise too. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONSimplicity Track my PurchasesWhat have you noticed about your purchases? Where are you inclined to make shifts, if any?
Emily McQuarter 10/07/2019 10:49 AMI have noticed I spend way too much on Amazon. I want to purchase from more small businesses.-
Addy Davidson 10/07/2019 1:13 PMMe, too. It's an unfortunate downward spiral. I went to 4 different hardware/electric supply stores looking for ceramic wire nuts, and nobody had them. 4 stops! Ended up having to buy them off Amazon, because stores aren't keeping up stock on thousands of items any more -- the carrying costs are too great.

REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth Healthy SleepConsider how many hours of sleep you get now. How would you like to shift your sleep patterns? What are you finding works for you to be successful in this action?
Emily McQuarter 10/07/2019 10:49 AMI want to get up earlier in the morning and have more of my day.
