Micah's actions
Waste
Advocate For More Food Packaging Options
I will advocate for alternatives to single-use packaging at local grocery stores, markets, at work, or on campus.
Food
Reduce Animal Products
I will enjoy 2 meatless meal(s) and/or 2 vegan meal(s) each day this week.
Waste
Visit a Waste Management Facility
I will spend at least 60 minutes visiting a local dump/transfer station, material recovery facility, and/or landfill to learn about the waste stream.
High Impact Action Track
Research Impact Investing
Simplicity
Using the links provided below, I will research impact investing and deterimine if it is right for me.
High Impact Action Track
Learn About Local Environmental Justice Concerns
Health
I will spend 30 minutes researching environmental justice concerns in my region, their causes, and local initiatives to address these concerns.
Water
Say No to Plastic Straws
An estimated 71% of seabirds and 30% of turtles have been found with plastics in their stomachs. When they ingest plastic, marine life has a 50% mortality rate. By asking for no straw when placing a drink order, I will keep 2 plastic straw(s) of out of the ocean each day.
Water
Conserve Toilet Water
I will save up to 12 gallons (45 L) of water a day by flushing only when necessary.
Water
Get Involved in the Water Justice Movement
I will spend at least 15 minutes using the resources provided to learn about water justice and find out how I can get involved in local initiatives.
High Impact Action Track
Zero-Waste Cooking
Food
I will cook 1 meal(s) with zero-waste each day

REFLECTION QUESTIONWater Conserve Toilet WaterWhat would a sustainable water future in your region look like? What needs to change?
Micah McLain 10/11/2019 8:11 AMFolks need to stop caring about their lawns unless they really spend a lot of time out there. I'd love to see more homeowners and neighborhoods shift to local plants and trees with the type of growth that doesn't require so much water, fertilizers, and maintenance. Better for the environment and better for quality of life wrt less time wasted maintaining areas. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWater Say No to Plastic StrawsWhat single-use items (e.g. straws, coffee cups, vegetable bags, plastic bags) do you regularly use? What could be substituted instead?
Micah McLain 10/11/2019 8:09 AMI actually can't think of any single-use items I use regularly...it becomes a regular mindset pretty quickly. -
Micah McLain 10/07/2019 1:14 PMI forget to check in every day but there are some good ideas here to further reduce my personal impact.
