Praveen's actions

Waste

Skip the Straw

Plastic bags and small plastic pieces like straws are most likely to get swept into our waterways. I will keep 3 plastic straw(s) out of the landfill and ocean each day by refusing straws or using my own glass/metal straw.

Waste

Historically, marginalized and low-income communities live closer to landfills, contributing to a multitude of health problems. I will find out how I can limit single-use items and do my best to limit the waste I generate.

High Impact Action Track Reduce Single-Use Disposables
Bringing your own bags and containers to the grocery store, and even to restaurants for leftovers, are a couple of ways to reduce your waste. What single-use items (e.g. straws, coffee cups, vegetable bags, plastic bags) do you regularly use? What could be substituted instead?

Those plastic produce bags that I already have -- I do as my grandma did -- I wash them over and over and take them back to the store to reuse.  They usually work well even with a small hole.  LL Bean's shopping bags are the best because they stand up by themselves and the are durable, nice looking, natural fiber;  they even come on sale.  I inherited a box of plastic straws and I purposed some of them to a non-single-use -- I put them over my plastic bag dryer (it looks like an upside down octopus of wood dowels) so it would get mildew.
