Scott's actions
Energy
Choose Clean/Renewable Energy
I will sign up for my utility company's clean/renewable energy option.
Energy
Choose LED Bulbs
I will replace 1 incandescent lightbulb(s) with Energy Star-certified LED bulbs, saving up to $14 per fixture per year.
Food
Advocate for More Food Options
Access to affordable, nutritious food is a food justice issue. I will advocate for local and/or organic food options at work, on campus and/or in the spaces I frequent.
Waste
Use Reusable Bags
I will not accept any disposable bags when making purchases.
Waste
Skip the Straw
Plastic bags and small plastic pieces like straws are most likely to get swept into our waterways. I will keep 1 plastic straw(s) out of the landfill and ocean each day by refusing straws or using my own glass/metal straw.
Food
Plant an Herb Garden
I will plant an herb garden in my home, workplace, or dorm room.
Food
Weekly Meal Planning
I will reduce food waste and save money by prepping for 2 meal(s) each day, only buying the ingredients I need.
Transportation
Advocate for Greener Vehicles
I will spend at least 5 minutes assessing the vehicles used by my company or college and advocate for a purchasing policy focused on fuel-efficient vehicles.
Transportation
Conduct Virtual Meetings
I will not travel for meetings and will instead conduct them virtually.
Transportation
Try Carpooling
I will commute by carpool 19 mile(s) each day and avoid sending up to 450.6 lbs of CO2 into Earth's atmosphere.
Transportation
Car Share
I will sign up for a car-sharing service, or organize car sharing with my neighbors, to cut down on the number of vehicles on the road.

Scott Bruzik 10/22/2019 4:41 PMHaving additional community gardens to donate food like with do at the HIG. Any area/region can have a community or volunteer garden to grow seasonal foods, then donate like the HIG does. This can be done in our country as well as others. I am looking into a program at one of our remote location and work with our HEAT team -

REFLECTION QUESTIONEnergy Choose Clean/Renewable EnergyHow might you be able to get others involved in advocating for the shift to clean energy?
Scott Bruzik 10/22/2019 4:35 PMI use a CT based company to check out my energy efficiency in my house. I have shared this contact information with 2 family members and 1 friend. This company will come to your house to run a series of test, change all bulbs, change shower heads, caulk and seal doors and windows for a small fee. THen they will run a report to show you energy issues to correct. -
Scott Bruzik 10/22/2019 4:32 PMOne more day to the challenge. What a great challenge to change your HEAT mindset, put things in place, and talk to teammates about new HEAT initiatives. I reached out to a HUB HIG location to see if I can team up with them to create new HEAT initiatives. GO HIG -
