UNMC/Nebraska Medicine LiveGreen Feed

BACK TO TEAM PAGE

Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.

To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

Can't believe we're finished. I feel like I'm finally getting into the swing of things. I joined the July plastic challenge almost a month and a half before it started and began working on my actions so really had time to make lasting changes. I'll have to pay attention to the upcoming challenges so I start on them earlier.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Energy Choose LED Bulbs
Changing lightbulbs is an excellent first step toward energy efficiency! In what other ways can you exercise your civic duty to protect the environment and reduce carbon emissions?

We don't have good mass transit where I live so I have to drive. I can't carpool because of the hours that I work. But I do try to run my errands together in a loop to save on gas and reduce emissions.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Health Happiness
How does/can practicing gratitude keep you centered and motivated to work for a better world?

When I list the things/people I'm grateful for, I realize how much I already have. When I keep that at the forefront, it helps me not buy more.

    Waste Go Paperless
Reducing your paper mail can be such a freeing action to take -- by reducing what is coming in, you can reduce what is going into the recycling bin too. How does it make you feel? What is the next step you will take to reduce your waste?

So excited to reduce waste mailing--I didn't realize that I could also stop the delivery of phone books, as 3 different ones come to my house --what a waste of paper!  Excited to have less waste and less security risks as so much of what comes is credit card related.

Waste Visit a Waste Management Facility
Field trip! What a fun way to learn about our impact and consumption! What facility did you visit? What did you learn? Did you take anyone with you?

I visited Cross Electronic Recycling.  They are open Saturday from 10am to 6pm and they will take "anything with a cord."  For computers, they have a special room to destroy the hard drives, both with software and with a drill :)

I was watching the leaves fall while I was washing dishes. When there's a good breeze it looks like it's snowing. I guess fall is definitely here.

Was able to download PDFs of summit transcripts instead of ordering a paper copy.

Made a haul yesterday. Picked up almost 10 pounds of organic broccoli, got my herbal tincture, and received my broccoli sprouting seeds and cacao. I'll pick up a fresh supply of organic produce at Whole Foods tonight. There's a local olive oil store I want to check out this weekend. So exciting!

I pick up my herbal tincture this afternoon and the ceremonial cacao should be delivered today. Hopefully, the broccoli sprout seeds will come today as well. I stopped at Costco last night to pick up broccoli and they didn't have ANY. I could eat broccoli at every meal and very often do just that.

Started seeing an herbalist this last weekend. The herbs are organic or wildcrafted locally. Another exciting venture in my health journey.
