I like to listen to them and watch them in the breeze. I also love pines in the winter, with the green and the white snow. We don't have any evergreens near our home right now, but we plan on planting aan evergreen privacy hedge next spring. We planted a new tree in the front yard this week to replace one we'd lost in a storm years ago.

What we invest our money in is what happens in the world. I imagine if people valued providing low-income services as much as making more money, we'd see dramatically different innovations - similar to what the Gates Foundation is doing. A small part of what they're doing involves impact investing with actual monetary returns possible (e.g....

Continued the quest to remove myself from mailing lists with a few more phone calls yesterday to charities. Charities are interesting because they aren't required to check your address again the national opt-out lists and they aren't required to provide an opt-out. We only donate regularly to a few charities, so I don't need their mail and...

Healthy food retailers can generate significant economic stimulus by serving as anchors for further commercial revitalization, creating local jobs, generating tax revenues, and capturing local dollars within the community, among other economic and community development outcomes.

Contrary to the recycling message, big-picture thinking leads to realizations like this from an MIT researcher: "we should trash all our recyclable plastic" -https://www.insider.com/mit-research-andrew-mcafee-says-recycling-is-useless-2019-10. Big systems problems require focusing our resources and the only way to do that is to stop...

Use stems as the base for a soup stock: This is a way to make use of the stems of collard greens, kale, and parsley. Let them infuse in your water for an hour or so, and then remove. They will leech all of their nutrients into your soup stock.

I stopped with the anti-bacteria everything - buying a plant-based cleaning product instead for most of our daily duty cleaning. Having clean surfaces and clean air just makes a home more enjoyable.

By looking in the mirror and remembering what I was and what I'm working towards - I don't feel like myself and I remind myself that getting to where I want takes daily action, not something I can just decide to do down the road. Health is not something that can always be recovered as a matter of will -- I need daily discipline.

Take my wife out for dinner and not worry about the cost of the babysitter ;)

Because it tastes wonderful! There is no doubt in my mind that meat just tastes better, with less effort (I mean, cooking a steak only takes salt and pepper and a pan or grill), than many of the veggie dishes I've had. There may be something deeper to it, such as vegan dishes always seem like they're missing something to me. When I eat strictly...
