Only one more day to post for this challenge. Guess I better take advantage of what is left.

I am having guests stay at my house and encouraging them to check all of the items they use to recycle. The kids are enjoying the game and counting all of the items they recycle. They are seeing how much waste they accumulate. It is making an impression on them!

Slow down long enough to be able to smell the roses

    Nature Enjoy the Sunrise/Sunset
Father Thomas Berry says, "...our primary purpose is celebration. Celebration of the dawn and the sunset and the different seasons of the year is a religious ritual, a way in which humans can establish their integral relationship with the universe, with the planet Earth." Respond to Berry's assertion.

    Waste Go Paperless
Reducing your paper mail can be such a freeing action to take -- by reducing what is coming in, you can reduce what is going into the recycling bin too. How does it make you feel? What is the next step you will take to reduce your waste?

The next step I will take to reduce my waste is to send an email to all of the companies that send me (usually unrequested) catalogs and tell them to cease and desist.  If I really need to buy something, I can go look at their website (or their competition's website if they don't have one).  Very few things annoy me as much as unsolicited junk mail.

    Waste Use Reusable Bags
What do you do if you find yourself in the situation of needing a bag for items but don't have a reusable one with you? Carry things out in your hands? In a cart? Accept a disposable one? If you find yourself in this position often, what system could you put in place to try to create a successful habit of not using plastic bags?

I made very sturdy canvas bags that I carry everywhere with me.  If I find I've forgotten, I will buy the reusable ones sold in grocery stores, or, I will ask for paper.  I've never thrown a paper bag away without using it in 100 different ways... covering text books, wrapping a present (in a pinch!  and you can draw on them) or even lining a drawer or cupboard.
