My chanllenge is going well. It was much easier than I expected.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Food Watch a Documentary about Food Sovereignty
How does food sovereignty address the complex agrarian transition to modern food systems?

    Keri Price's avatar
    Keri Price 10/20/2019 1:17 PM
Food sovereignty is the practice of using traditional methods and planting traditional crops. It brings the focus to the past and to maintain cultural ties to ancestors and how they live.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Health Support Pollution Reduction
What environmental factors affect human health in your region, and how do they affect it?

Many people in our area suffer from asthma and allergies. So many people brought their favorite plants with them when the moved to Phoenix. This brought in non-native plant species that now gives off pollen causing allergic reactions..
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Nature Explore My Area
How can spending more time outdoors enhance your sense of place?

    Keri Price 10/20/2019 12:06 PM
It helps you to realize there is a great big world out there and it our responsibility to care for our planet.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Whole Foods Diet
Michael Pollan states that “it is better to pay the grocer (our edit: or the farmer!) than the doctor.” What are your thoughts on this idea?

    Keri Price 10/20/2019 12:02 PM
With the ongoing rises in healthcare costs, little things like eating healthier food can really cut down the amount of doctor bills.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Waste Find Local Recycling Depots
Our ability to recycle certain things ebbs and flows based upon many factors. Luckily there are places that accept uncommon things to recycle or dispose of in a less harmful way. What did you find when looking for places to recycle items that can't be recycled in your curbside bin?

    Keri Price's avatar
    Keri Price 10/20/2019 12:00 PM
I was surprised at the amount of recycle centers there are in the Valley. Many of these take items which are not recyclable in the bins.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Waste Go Paperless
Reducing your paper mail can be such a freeing action to take -- by reducing what is coming in, you can reduce what is going into the recycling bin too. How does it make you feel? What is the next step you will take to reduce your waste?

    Keri Price 10/20/2019 11:50 AM
I am happy not to get multiple mailings from so many companies. Honestly, most of the junk mail just gets tossed.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Energy Choose LED Bulbs
Changing lightbulbs is an excellent first step toward energy efficiency! In what other ways can you exercise your civic duty to protect the environment and reduce carbon emissions?

    Keri Price's avatar
    Keri Price 10/20/2019 11:43 AM
We had to find places to eat and visit on our trip. Driving will be a way to avoid air travel.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Food Try a New Way to Prep
Canning and pickling food is a great way to have delicious summer fruits and vegetables all year round. Just make sure to follow the canning and pickling guidelines from the USDA. What are some foods that you would like to preserve and enjoy later in the year?
