REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Watch a Documentary about Food SovereigntyHow does food sovereignty address the complex agrarian transition to modern food systems?
Annamarie Pas 10/23/2019 8:23 PMFood sovereignty is at the heart of today's agricultural and economical intersection. It is no secret that food deserts exist and plague great numbers of people. We stand at a unique agrarian position in today's age. Everybody should have the right to a healthy diet that was produced in a sustainable way. I think that we are recognizing the need to shift to a more environmentally sound diet, but aren't taking into account the many people who don't even have access to a sound diet at all! How can we inflict our desire for a vegan, organic lifestyle, when the cost of these products so greatly exceeds other food costs--perhaps unhealthy foods costs. I see both sides. I see the urgency. However, I think we must fully take into account all people to be impacted by this desired transition. -
Annamarie Pas 10/21/2019 12:38 PMI’ve really enjoyed having conversations with my family and friends and public transportation. It’s great in terms of sustainability and lowering your carbon footprint. However, I recently even started exploring how to reduce carbon footprints even more. While discussing with my friend/co-worker, I mentioned how I wanted to start biking and how I was looking to go to Salvation Army sometime this week to buy a used bike. He quickly spoke up, letting me know he was actually looking to sell his bike!! What are the odds that this worked out so well.-
Trevor Mull 10/21/2019 2:15 PMThat worked out well! Riding a bike has great impacts on the environment and also your overall health. I salute you for taking the initiative to hop on the pedals!

REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportation Learn More and Talk to My FriendsHow has your access to various kinds of transportation throughout your life influenced your current attitudes about transportation and your transportation behavior?
Annamarie Pas 10/16/2019 10:25 AMGrowing up in a rural community, I had access to little to no public transportation. However, now living in a major city, I understand the convenience and importance of public transportation. A huge oversight in the typical public discourse is the lack of recognition that public transportation is not feasible in extreme rural areas, but rather there are other alternatives to make transportation more green. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONNature Leave No TraceEducator Stephanie Kaza advises her students to focus on what they care about most when addressing the enormity of ecological problems. Is there a specific area you feel particularly called to work on?
Annamarie Pas 10/16/2019 10:23 AMYES. The focus that I have been most recently drawn to is environmental racism/injustice. I want to unpack the correlations between incarceration and greenspace. By looking at communities with high incarceration rates, I also want to study those communities perceptions of nature, education about nature, and access to nature. In my mixed methods research class, I am conducting the design for this research experiment. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Learn About & Practice Sustainable FashionHow can you express your personality, creativity, and values in ways that don't require fast fashion or buying more clothes and accessories?

Annamarie Pas 10/13/2019 5:04 PMDo you guys know the 7 LNT principles?? I sure do. I actually put on a little workshop about LNT after leading a kayaking trip this weekend.
While kayaking on the Chicago River, I pulled a bunch of waste out of the river. Very sad moment. :(
But it lead to a great opportunity to talk about LNT -
Annamarie Pas 10/10/2019 7:31 AMI'm recognizing my most commonly achieved goal is eating meatless! Just thought I'd share with y'all... my favorite breakfast has become Greek yogurt with peanut butter and chia seeds!-
James Sadler 10/10/2019 9:56 AMI love chia seeds, but I am one of the unlucky ones who does not like greek yogurt. For those of us who are looking for a vegan alternative to yogurt in the morning, I make overnight oats with oatmeal, almond milk, chia seeds, and cinnamon. In the morning, I eat that with a banana and some coconut flakes on top. It's super good and I feel light and energized throughout the day without the dairy.

Annamarie Pas 10/08/2019 8:08 AMEating meatless is so much easier than expected!! Ever since I started being more mindful of recognizing WHAT I'm eating, I realized I was already eating at LEAST one meatless meal a day. I think I am going to challenge myself to try and do two meatless meals a day!-
