Louanne Moldovan
"I have been a longtime recycling maven - since I lived in LA and even wrote a Country/Western tune: Trash, as part of a TV show character's hobby. I am not exactly militant but rather quietly dedicated to doing what I can to diminish my footprint."

Louanne's actions
Waste
Recycle Everything I Can
Contamination prevents what is recyclable from being recycled. I will research and recycle all materials that are accepted by local haulers or drop stations in my community, making sure to not contaminate recyclables with non-recyclables.
Waste
Use Reusable Bags
I will not accept any disposable bags when making purchases.
Waste
Compost Food Waste
I will avoid sending up to .69 lbs (.31 kg) of food waste to the landfill each day by composting my food or learning how to.
Waste
Use a Reusable Mug
I will avoid sending 5 disposable cup(s) to the landfill each day by using a reusable mug.
Waste
Advocate For More Food Packaging Options
I will advocate for alternatives to single-use packaging at local grocery stores, markets, at work, or on campus.
Waste
Use a Reusable Water Bottle
I will keep 3 disposable plastic bottle(s) from entering the waste stream by using a reusable water bottle.

Louanne Moldovan 10/22/2019 9:20 AMUsed my Civic Life thermos for marathon NT Live shows all day Sunday, rather than succumb to buying tea - saved a few paper cups! -
Louanne Moldovan 10/16/2019 11:25 AMYears back, when I was hired to write a script for Longview's Metro recycling program, called "Why Recycle?" I toured the facilities and was distressed to see the results of people not sorting items properly. Either creates lots of extra work or causes tons of waste as they can't recycle the items.
Reinforced my 'fussy' approach to recycling!-
Teri Poppino 10/23/2019 12:35 PMI am perpetually dumpster diving into recycle bins--at home, at Church, at work, to keep the recycling streams as clean as possible. Yay, Fussy Us!

Louanne Moldovan 10/14/2019 9:02 AMDoes eating leftovers count in any way? Seems people either hate them or love them. I'm a lover of them!-
Teri Poppino 10/23/2019 12:37 PMI should! You are reducing waste either in food prep or in not composting. I say you earned an extra star!

REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Recycle Everything I CanWhat have you learned about what is accepted by local haulers for recycling, what you can drop off or ship to certain places, and what is not recyclable in your area? What is the most difficult part of recycling for you?
Louanne Moldovan 10/08/2019 9:23 AMI learned years ago about where to recycle syringes which we collect on a daily basis due to my daughter's Type 1 diabetes condition. I am an avid recycler and pay attention to the chart sent to us each year with updates -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Use a Reusable MugMaybe you've heard how good it is to switch from a single use coffee cup to a reusable one, but it's just hard to make the switch. What stands in your way of making this a habit? By identifying the challenges, you can begin to work through them to have better success in taking this action. Knowing the difference you are making, how does it make you feel?
