Freddy's actions

Nature

Support Local Pollinators

At least 30% of crops and 90% of flowering plants rely on pollinators to produce fruit. I will spend 60 minutes researching which plants support local native pollinators and plant some in my yard.

Plant Trees

Nature

I will plant 6 tree(s) in my community, public parks, or backyard.

Say No to Plastic Straws

An estimated 71% of seabirds and 30% of turtles have been found with plastics in their stomachs. When they ingest plastic, marine life has a 50% mortality rate. By asking for no straw when placing a drink order, I will keep 2 plastic straw(s) of out of the ocean each day.

Got my planting done, but instead of trees, we used hydrangeas that are native to NC (and an aucuba, which is actually Japanese).  More to come when next spring comes around.

So far, so good.  Still need to wrap up my native plant project in the back yard.  Contacting landscapers today.

Gotta get out of the habit of storing leftovers in Ziploc bags.  We have a hole cabinet full of Tupperware that goes unused, while we throw Ziplocs into the trash.  :-(

Amen. I do love a Ziploc, but in reality there are better alternatives. Also, if you use them for things other than food, they can generally be reused several times, like for travel.

Reducing straw usage is more difficult than it seems.  Ate at 2 restaurants over the weekend where they serve the drinks with plastic straws already in the beverage.  Got to tell them BEFORE they serve the drinks that you don't want a straw!

I do not use straws with my drink orders.  I can reduce roughly 2 straws a day (may vary) by doing this.

I will support pollinators by choosing plants that are native to NC and are attractive to the various local pollinators

I will be adding new trees and shrubbery to my yard, part of which is a buffer zone for the Neuse River.

My story is about discipline.  I know of many ways I can reduce energy consumption, waste, maintain my health, etc.  I just have to think and stick to the plan.
