Joshua's actions
Waste
Use a Reusable Water Bottle
I will keep 1 disposable plastic bottle(s) from entering the waste stream by using a reusable water bottle.
Waste
Recycle Everything I Can
Contamination prevents what is recyclable from being recycled. I will research and recycle all materials that are accepted by local haulers or drop stations in my community, making sure to not contaminate recyclables with non-recyclables.
Nature
Go for a Daily Walk
I will take a 30-minute walk outside each day.
Nature
Explore My Area
I will explore at least one new hiking trail or nature walk in my area.
Waste
Use a Reusable Mug
I will avoid sending 1 disposable cup(s) to the landfill each day by using a reusable mug.
Waste
Skip the Straw
Plastic bags and small plastic pieces like straws are most likely to get swept into our waterways. I will keep 2 plastic straw(s) out of the landfill and ocean each day by refusing straws or using my own glass/metal straw.
Energy
Choose LED Bulbs
I will replace 2 incandescent lightbulb(s) with Energy Star-certified LED bulbs, saving up to $14 per fixture per year.

REFLECTION QUESTIONNatureHow can spending more time outdoors enhance your sense of place?
Joshua David 10/09/2019 7:44 AMMy sense of place? No. Being outside and exploring is just awesome. Clean air, exercise, finding new places, it's great. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWasteMaybe you've heard how good it is to switch from a single use coffee cup to a reusable one, but it's just hard to make the switch. What stands in your way of making this a habit? By identifying the challenges, you can begin to work through them to have better success in taking this action. Knowing the difference you are making, how does it make you feel?
Joshua David 10/04/2019 9:25 AMThis is a pretty easy one if you make coffee at home. However, it's probably important to consider that your reusable mug is something you'll use for years and is recyclable. Otherwise, the environmental impact of manufacturing, transporting, and then disposing of a reusable mug may not outweigh the benefits in the first place. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWasteWhile water bottles are needed for health and safety in certain places, we can do more to reduce the unnecessary use of them. What are the barriers to you using reusable bottles and tap water instead of bottled water? How could you make this a permanent habit?
Joshua David 10/02/2019 7:00 AMUsually it is just having a reusable water bottle on me. Perhaps if I were to clip a bottle to my bag it would help me remember to pack it.
