Waste
Personal Waste Audit
I will collect all of my unrecyclable, non-compostable trash to raise my awareness of how much I send to the landfill.
High Impact Action Track
Learn About Local Environmental Justice Concerns
Health
I will spend 60 minutes researching environmental justice concerns in my region, their causes, and local initiatives to address these concerns.
Waste
Recycle Everything I Can
Contamination prevents what is recyclable from being recycled. I will research and recycle all materials that are accepted by local haulers or drop stations in my community, making sure to not contaminate recyclables with non-recyclables.
Nature
Join An Outdoor Project
I will join an outdoor restoration project in my community.
Water
Eco-friendly Gardening
I will plant native species, landscape with water-efficient plants, and use eco-friendly fertilizers.
Simplicity
Research My Investment Portfolio
I will find out what stocks and bonds are in my investment account portfolio to determine if they align with my values (e.g. environmental, social responsibility, community).
Nature
Plant Trees
I will plant 1 tree(s) in my community, public parks, or backyard.
Water
Install Greywater Catchment
I will install a greywater catchment system in my home.
Simplicity
Meditate
I will meditate or create a moment of silence for 6 minute(s) each day to reflect on things important to me.
Simplicity
Track my Purchases
I will spend 5 minutes each day maintaining a record of all my purchases and learning about my spending habits.
Nature
Go for a Daily Walk
I will take a 20-minute walk outside each day.
Nature
Explore My Area
I will explore at least one new hiking trail or nature walk in my area.
Food
Meet My Local Farmers
I will visit my nearest farm to find out who produces my food, and will learn about the quality of life of those who produce my food in other regions of the world to make better choices when I shop.
Food
Reduce Animal Products
I will enjoy 1 meatless meal(s) and/or 2 vegan meal(s) each day this week.

REFLECTION QUESTIONFoodWhen you know who produces your food, you are connecting personally to your complex regional food system. What are the advantages of knowing who produces your food and where it comes from? Do you think this might enable someone to advocate for a better quality of life for those who produce their food, both near and far?
Kerry Cedergren 10/20/2019 3:24 PMKnowing where your food comes from gives you pride and also comfort if you know the farmers who grow the food; there is a connection. This results in compassion for the well being of the growers, that this is their livelihood and their career. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWasteWhy is it so difficult to understand the impacts our purchases and waste have on other people, animals, and places? How might your experience with this challenge impact your future consumption and choices?
Kerry Cedergren 10/16/2019 6:45 PMMost people don't realize that buying an item made of single use plastic takes a tremendous amount of resources such as water. We should consider minimizing our use of single use plastic (perhaps use real forks rather than plastic forks) and be aware of the packaging when you buy things. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaterWhat are the most prominent water concerns in your area? Examples include drought, flooding, pollution, access, security, and privatization.
Kerry Cedergren 10/16/2019 6:35 PMSome neighborhoods near me are close to the river and are at risk throughout the year for flooding. Flash flooding also affects a different neighborhood because their sewer system is outdated and cannot keep up with the fast flow of the water, so people's homes flood. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaterWhat are some of the needs that water meets or benefits that water provides for you?
Kerry Cedergren 10/09/2019 8:48 PMWe need water to live and I try to conserve it by minimizing my usage in everyday life. It is important that we plan carefully when putting buildings where green space used to be. That may result in flooding if there isn't ample land for water to soak in. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHigh Impact Action TrackWho is most affected by environmental degration and/or environmental irresponsiblity in your community? How are they affected?
Kerry Cedergren 10/06/2019 7:25 PMThere are some neighborhoods that are older and haven't been updated in decades. As we have gotten more rain than usual, they have suffered because the infrastructure isn't updated and their sewer system isn't keeping up with the rain, resulting in flooding in their houses. It is incumbent on them to pay a lot of money to fix it, and for most it is cost prohibitive. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONNatureHow do you experience your neighborhood or city differently when walking instead of driving?
Kerry Cedergren 10/04/2019 6:33 AMI will often run into friends that I haven't seen in a while when I am walking, giving us a chance to catch up. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWasteWhat have you learned about what is accepted by local haulers for recycling, what you can drop off or ship to certain places, and what is not recyclable in your area? What is the most difficult part of recycling for you?
Kerry Cedergren 10/04/2019 5:49 AMDon't put nonrecyclables in the recycling. It contaminates the entire recycling bin. If you don't want to recycle, please don't put your half full bottle in the recycling bin. thank you!
