  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Meet My Local Farmers
When you know who produces your food, you are connecting personally to your complex regional food system. What are the advantages of knowing who produces your food and where it comes from? Do you think this might enable someone to advocate for a better quality of life for those who produce their food, both near and far?

Knowing where your food comes from gives you pride and also comfort if you know the farmers who grow the food; there is a connection.  This results in compassion for the well being of the growers, that this is their livelihood and their career.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Waste Personal Waste Audit
Why is it so difficult to understand the impacts our purchases and waste have on other people, animals, and places? How might your experience with this challenge impact your future consumption and choices?

Most people don't realize that buying an item made of single use plastic takes a tremendous amount of resources such as water.  We should consider minimizing our use of single use plastic (perhaps use real forks rather than plastic forks) and be aware of the packaging when you buy things.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Water Eco-friendly Gardening
What are the most prominent water concerns in your area? Examples include drought, flooding, pollution, access, security, and privatization.

Some neighborhoods near me are close to the river and are at risk throughout the year for flooding.  Flash flooding also affects a different neighborhood because their sewer system is outdated and cannot keep up with the fast flow of the water, so people's homes flood.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Water Install Greywater Catchment
What are some of the needs that water meets or benefits that water provides for you?

We need water to live and I try to conserve it by minimizing my usage in everyday life. It is important that we plan carefully when putting buildings where green space used to be.  That may result in flooding if there isn't ample land for water to soak in.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
High Impact Action Track Learn About Local Environmental Justice Concerns
Who is most affected by environmental degration and/or environmental irresponsiblity in your community? How are they affected?

There are some neighborhoods that are older and haven't been updated in decades.  As we have gotten more rain than usual, they have suffered because the infrastructure isn't updated and their sewer system isn't keeping up with the rain, resulting in flooding in their houses.  It is incumbent on them to pay a lot of money to fix it, and for most it is cost prohibitive.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Nature Go for a Daily Walk
How do you experience your neighborhood or city differently when walking instead of driving?

I will often run into friends that I haven't seen in a while when I am walking, giving us a chance to catch up.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Waste Recycle Everything I Can
What have you learned about what is accepted by local haulers for recycling, what you can drop off or ship to certain places, and what is not recyclable in your area? What is the most difficult part of recycling for you?

    Kerry Cedergren 10/04/2019 5:49 AM
Don't put nonrecyclables in the recycling. It contaminates the entire recycling bin. If you don't want to recycle, please don't put your half full bottle in the recycling bin. thank you!
