  • REFLECTION QUESTION
High Impact Action Track Talk To My Friends and Colleagues
What makes you feel connected to your neighborhood, your neighbors, or another kind of community in your life?

I don't feel connected to my neighbors or neighborhood. We are all renters, so no one feels very attached to anyone or anything.

maybe knock on the doors to say Hi? or may be go the park and meet new people, have a conversation with them and get out of your circle. I know its hard but try it.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Waste Use a Reusable Mug
Maybe you've heard how good it is to switch from a single use coffee cup to a reusable one, but it's just hard to make the switch. What stands in your way of making this a habit? By identifying the challenges, you can begin to work through them to have better success in taking this action. Knowing the difference you are making, how does it make you feel?

This was an easy change as soon as I found a reusable coffee cup that I liked. I much prefer to make coffee at home and bring it with me, and it feels good to save money and the environment.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
High Impact Action Track Ditch the Lawn
What is the main water source in your region?

    Riley Berger's avatar
    Riley Berger 10/02/2019 4:07 PM
The Bull Run Watershed is the main water source for Portland, Oregon.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
High Impact Action Track Learn About Local Environmental Justice Concerns
Who is most affected by environmental degration and/or environmental irresponsiblity in your community? How are they affected?

    Riley Berger's avatar
    Riley Berger 10/02/2019 4:07 PM
Folks of lower socioeconomic class suffer most for environmental degradation, and due to historic redlining in Portland, these people are majority people of color and
    immigrants.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
High Impact Action Track Stay on the Ground
What was your process like for restructuring your trip? How can you avoid more air travel in the future?

    Riley Berger's avatar
    Riley Berger 10/02/2019 4:06 PM
It's difficult to restructure a trip for work, but taking less flights for vacation is an extremely depressing way to make a great impact for the planet.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
High Impact Action Track Reduce Single-Use Disposables
Bringing your own bags and containers to the grocery store, and even to restaurants for leftovers, are a couple of ways to reduce your waste. What single-use items (e.g. straws, coffee cups, vegetable bags, plastic bags) do you regularly use? What could be substituted instead?

    Riley Berger's avatar
    Riley Berger 10/02/2019 4:04 PM
Sometimes I use the plastic produce bags at the grocery store when I end up there unexpectedly. Storing reusable bags in the car would help a lot!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Waste Use a Reusable Water Bottle
While water bottles are needed for health and safety in certain places, we can do more to reduce the unnecessary use of them. What are the barriers to you using reusable bottles and tap water instead of bottled water? How could you make this a permanent habit?

    Riley Berger's avatar
    Riley Berger 10/02/2019 4:01 PM
Convenience is the only barrier that I face - if I was better prepared in the morning, I would always have a water bottle with me!
