  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Transportation
The US spends roughly 20% of its federal budget on defense. In contrast, 2% goes to education, 20% goes to social security and 3% goes to transportation infrastructure. Do these numbers surprise you at all? Why or why not? How would you adjust them if you could?

This isn't surprising. I know we spend an astronomical amount of money on military personnel, infrastructure, and weaponry. I would love to see less money invested in defense and more invested in education and transportation and those "at home" services for civilians.

How might impact investing help you better live your values?

Impact investing is good because - unlike normal investing - you can be confident that the company/asset you are essentially loaning your money to is behaving in a way that is ethical and producing a better society for all. This is something that I know I highly value when thinking about investing. I don't want to make money off of a company that is exploiting others.
