    The most irritating items in my bag of trash are these 17 coffee stirrers.  I have a metal spoon in my desk, stored in the same drawer as my coffee cup.  It would take very little effort to carry it with me to get coffee, and rinse it off in the sink.

    While water bottles are needed for health and safety in certain places, we can do more to reduce the unnecessary use of them. What are the barriers to you using reusable bottles and tap water instead of bottled water? How could you make this a permanent habit?

    I have the most trouble using reusable bottles when I am traveling on the road by car.  The major barriers are a lack of facilities to wash out the reusable bottle, and a source of cold water to refill the reusable bottle.  In order to make it a habit, I could plan ahead, and bring a small cooler full of ice water to refill my bottle on the road.

    I have not used a Styrofoam or paper coffee cup at work for the last 12 years - and it makes me feel good!

    In North America, up to 65% of food waste happens at the consumer level. Chef Steven Satterfield advocates for utilizing every part of a vegetable. How can you incorporate using an entire vegetable, including the skins, tops, and stalks during your next meal prep?

    Waste Recycle Everything I Can
    What have you learned about what is accepted by local haulers for recycling, what you can drop off or ship to certain places, and what is not recyclable in your area? What is the most difficult part of recycling for you?

    I need to do my part in the battle against recycling contamination. Simple things like:
    • Keeping plastic bags out of recycles
    • Keeping foods and liquids out of my recycled materials
    • Sort recycling streams (i.e., keeping corrugated cardboard separated from other materials in my community drop-off location, using the plastic-bag-specific recycle bin at the local IGA grocer, take aluminum cans to recyclers specializing in metal, etc.)
    • Recycle small plastic caps and lids (that usually go to waste in recycle facilities screening operations) with community organizations (and Elanco Clinton Labs) that are turning them in to create park benches and plastic lumber.

      These plastic benches are awesome. My hometown had a "bottlecap drive" a couple years ago and had a lot of them made for our local schools and parks. Thousands of people contributed! Very cool that Clinton is participating in this!
