Nick's actions
Health
Go get a check up
I will make an appointment for my annual physical.
Health
Support Pollution Reduction
I will spend at least 10 minutes learning about water and air quality issues in my area, how they are impacting human and environmental health, and how I can help.
Health
More Fruits and Veggies
I will eat a heart healthy diet by adding 5 cup(s) of fruits and vegetables each day to achieve at least 4 cups per day.
Health
Exercise Daily
Exercise is a great stress blaster! I will exercise for 45 minute(s) each day.
High Impact Action Track
Learn About Local Environmental Justice Concerns
Health
I will spend 10 minutes researching environmental justice concerns in my region, their causes, and local initiatives to address these concerns.
High Impact Action Track
Install Alternative Energy
Energy
I will install alternative energy systems, such as solar electric systems or solar water heaters.
Waste
Use a Reusable Water Bottle
I will keep 8 disposable plastic bottle(s) from entering the waste stream by using a reusable water bottle.
Waste
Skip the Straw
Plastic bags and small plastic pieces like straws are most likely to get swept into our waterways. I will keep 6 plastic straw(s) out of the landfill and ocean each day by refusing straws or using my own glass/metal straw.
Waste
Use a Reusable Mug
I will avoid sending 6 disposable cup(s) to the landfill each day by using a reusable mug.
Simplicity
Have a Garage Sale
I will have a group garage sale with friends, family, and/or neighbors.
Health
Take Control
Both systemic and personal sustainability are important! I will develop a plan with my medical professionals to achieve my best health and live my life to the fullest.
Community
Join my Neighborhood Association
I will join my neighborhood association or another local group of decision makers.
Energy
Choose Clean/Renewable Energy
I will sign up for my utility company's clean/renewable energy option.
Energy
Switch to Cold Water
I will switch to washing my clothes in cold water, saving up to 1,600 lbs of CO2 over the course of the next year.
Water
Insulate Water Pipes and Water Heater
I will avoid wasting water while waiting for the shower or sink to heat up.

Nick Wleklinski 10/24/2019 12:03 AMCan't believe the challenge is over. Definitely made me more cognizant of my actions and their impact on the environment. It was also great to see others in the community getting involved! Way to go all! -

Nick Wleklinski 10/21/2019 4:22 PMLoving this fall weather! Making it easier to get out and about for exercise -
Nick Wleklinski 10/21/2019 4:21 PMI started making it a point to tell our server not to bring us a straw with our drinks to cut down on that waste -
Nick Wleklinski 10/18/2019 8:39 AMWould highly recommend using Arcadia for your electric/heating. It's a great way to support renewable energy and their site is very easy to use. Have been very happy with them! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWater Insulate Water Pipes and Water HeaterHow do you think climate change will affect your region’s water supply? Think about the effects of weather, storms, salinity, and sea level rise, among other changes. How can you find out more about climate change’s impact to your region's water?
Nick Wleklinski 10/15/2019 6:36 PMThe changing climate reduces our amount of water available. The increase in rain causes sewage issues, causing flooding and unsanitary conditions -
Nick Wleklinski 10/15/2019 6:34 PMHalf way through, going well thus far! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONSimplicity Have a Garage SaleBuilding community is good for your soul and fun to do! What were some of the positive outcomes that came out of your group garage sale?
Nick Wleklinski 10/07/2019 6:03 PMIt was a great way to get rid of some clutter that was no longer needed and without putting that stuff in a landfill. Also a great way to meet some new people from the area -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Use a Reusable Water BottleWhile water bottles are needed for health and safety in certain places, we can do more to reduce the unnecessary use of them. What are the barriers to you using reusable bottles and tap water instead of bottled water? How could you make this a permanent habit?
Nick Wleklinski 10/06/2019 3:01 PMMainly a convince issue. Bottle water is more convinent in that you can buy the bottle almost anywhere and then throw it away when you are done, making one less thing to keep track of. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Use a Reusable MugMaybe you've heard how good it is to switch from a single use coffee cup to a reusable one, but it's just hard to make the switch. What stands in your way of making this a habit? By identifying the challenges, you can begin to work through them to have better success in taking this action. Knowing the difference you are making, how does it make you feel?
Nick Wleklinski 10/05/2019 8:48 AMSwitching means having to remember to bring the mug, wash the mug, keep track of the mug, etc. This involves developing a new habit, which is always a challenge.
