Sally's actions
Waste
Use Reusable Bags
I will not accept any disposable bags when making purchases.
Waste
Skip the Straw
Plastic bags and small plastic pieces like straws are most likely to get swept into our waterways. I will keep 1 plastic straw(s) out of the landfill and ocean each day by refusing straws or using my own glass/metal straw.
Community
Connect with a Nonprofit
I will connect with a local nonprofit, environmental or otherwise, and find out how I can get involved or become a member.
Health
Exercise Daily
Exercise is a great stress blaster! I will exercise for 15 minute(s) each day.
Waste
Use a Reusable Water Bottle
I will keep 4 disposable plastic bottle(s) from entering the waste stream by using a reusable water bottle.
Health
Audit Toxic Cleaning Products in my Home
I will spend 30 minutes researching toxic chemicals found in cleaning supplies and personal care products and remove them from my home.
Health
Happiness
I will write down three things every day that I am grateful for, or send one email every day thanking or praising someone.

REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth Audit Toxic Cleaning Products in my HomeTo what extent do you believe that environmental factors contribute to your own health or issues with health?
Sally Stockey 10/21/2019 7:28 PMThere's a lot of research out there regarding both the personal safety and environmental factors of products. Since I already switched to most natural cleaners, I focused my search on my makeup, hair and body products. What I hypothesized was true, the cheaper products were not as safe for my body or the environment. I was happy to confirm this and am willing to be more focused in my purchases going forward.

REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunity Connect with a NonprofitWhat inspires you to act toward a more sustainable community?
Sally Stockey 10/21/2019 7:07 PMI volunteered tonight at a local non profit who assist families with clothing, diapers and household items. Tonight I assisted families gathering winter coats, snowpants, boots, gloves and hats. I knew a few of the families from the schools and know there's a huge need in our community. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Use Reusable BagsWhat do you do if you find yourself in the situation of needing a bag for items but don't have a reusable one with you? Carry things out in your hands? In a cart? Accept a disposable one? If you find yourself in this position often, what system could you put in place to try to create a successful habit of not using plastic bags?
Sally Stockey 10/07/2019 6:18 PMIf I forget my bags they're in my car. Therefore taking the cart out to my car is a good option. There are paper bags as a last resort at grocery stores, but rarely at other stores. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Skip the StrawHow could you incorporate other "R's" -- reduce, reuse, refuse, repair, repurpose, etc. -- into your lifestyle?
Sally Stockey 10/07/2019 6:16 PMI have bought metal straws. I'd forget to bring it with me and now have it in a drawstring bag. I'm getting better at asking for no straw upon ordering. -
Sally Stockey 10/07/2019 6:05 PMI need to dig into my bigger challenges. It's nice there's a deadline as sometimes it's easy to put these things off (best intentions). The gratitude journal, exercise and avoiding water bottles have all been easy. I may want to put in another daily challenge. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Use a Reusable Water BottleWhile water bottles are needed for health and safety in certain places, we can do more to reduce the unnecessary use of them. What are the barriers to you using reusable bottles and tap water instead of bottled water? How could you make this a permanent habit?
Sally Stockey 10/07/2019 6:03 PMI'm getting better by having reusable water bottles in various places ( car, work, workout bag). I try to fill them before leaving home AP I don't get stuck thirsty and not having a place to refill them. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth Exercise DailyHow can you incorporate other personal values (like quality time with friends or spending time in nature) into your exercise routine?
Sally Stockey 10/07/2019 6:01 PMMost of my exercise is with friends. Whether I'm taking a pilates class, going for a walk, walking to a destination or riding a bike, it's typically with a friend -
Sally Stockey 10/03/2019 8:11 PMI enjoy new challenges in every aspect of my life! This will introduce me to new ways to think and act that help me and the world around me. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth HappinessHow does/can practicing gratitude keep you centered and motivated to work for a better world?
Sally Stockey 10/02/2019 5:53 PMDespite challenges, life is full of wonderful things. Gratitude changes my mindset.
