REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Personal Waste AuditWhy is it so difficult to understand the impacts our purchases and waste have on other people, animals, and places? How might your experience with this challenge impact your future consumption and choices?
Jacob Stewart 10/12/2019 2:24 PMBecause we don't see them. If people don't see how their choices impact something immediately they won't think about it. The existential thought required to understand how every day choices impact the world around us is too taxing for many people. It has already made me completely conscientious about how I am impacting the planet and my environment around me. I have cut out single use plastics entirely, I eat vegetarian, I ride my bike everywhere I go even if that means crossing the city because I am educated on how the things I consume are acquired for my use. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWater Install a Low-Flow ShowerheadHow can your region/household prepare for changing water situations in order to become more resilient?
Jacob Stewart 10/12/2019 2:22 PMInstall rain catching systems to store water for uses which don't require filtered, processed water. I think that is by far the best way my household and region impact climate change and water shortages. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunity Volunteer in my CommunityWhat is one thing you can do to help your community become more sustainable?
Jacob Stewart 10/12/2019 2:21 PMStart more conversations with people not as educated about the climate crisis. let them know where to get more information and invite people to events and programs which will educate them, and improve their happiness by knowing they did something impactful. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunity Raise Money For a NonprofitHow do/can Ecochallenge.org programs help you develop a stronger sense of community?
Jacob Stewart 10/12/2019 2:20 PMMy sense of community stretches to places I have been, not just the place I live. If I can help to raise money for an organization that funds research on new and more efficient technology, raise awareness on environmental crisis that is still unknown to far to many people around the world including developed countries, or just give money to those on the front lines of climate change I am apart of those people. I have more of a sense of purpose on this planet. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportation Choose a Carbon OffsetA round-trip flight from New York City to Los Angeles emits just over 1.5 tons of CO2—per person. That’s a lot of carbon! What can you do to reduce the number of flights you take per year?
Jacob Stewart 10/12/2019 2:15 PMTravelling to places locally within a distance of 300 km is a good way to reduce the amount of trips taken by plane. Myself personally I have only flown once in the last year and a half and for my upcoming trip I also decided to sponsor an organization that protects an acre fo land in the amazon rainforest to offset the carbon emitted from the plane I will be taking. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONSimplicity Research My Investment PortfolioIn what ways can you increase the positive impacts and decrease the negative impacts of your financial investments?
Jacob Stewart 10/12/2019 2:08 PMBy ensuring that my investments go toward projects that highlight sustainability locally, considering we're in Saskatchewan projects which fund research into sustainable agricultural practices and harvesting, I can target investments that target below or meet target returns. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWater Fix Leaky FaucetsFixing leaky faucets is one of the tasks that we can easily put off until later. Good job on completing this action! How will you use the momentum from completing this action to increase your water efficiency in other ways?
Jacob Stewart 10/08/2019 3:19 PMMy following my one song per shower rule and never leaving the water tap on when not in use i believe am, and will continue, to make my water use as efficient as possible -
Jacob Stewart 10/05/2019 10:06 PMI just wish Saskatchewan wasn't so behind on major issues happening in our world, and was more open to a discussion without conflict arising. -
Jacob Stewart 10/05/2019 6:36 PMQuestion to reflect on whens align outside, how are you directly impacting your local environment? do you think your carbon footprint is offset or can you do things to further reduce your footprint, and possibly become carbon negative? -
REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportation Go by BikeHow do your transportation choices affect your engagement in your community? Does your experience differ while walking, riding transit, biking, or driving?
Jacob Stewart 10/05/2019 6:33 PMThe biggest difference I notice regarding my community engagement is when I walk. I have the opportunity to talk to people passing by or help out when I see an issue while walking I don't have while biking or on the transit.
