Grover Stanturf 10/23/2019 4:35 PMResearching the local tribes of Native Americans has really stimulated my interest as to how many of their descendants still dwell near the old sites? -
REFLECTION QUESTIONSimplicity MeditateWhat would you like to invest more time in reflecting on?
Grover Stanturf 10/09/2019 12:04 PMI would like to reflect more on ways to create more conscious of conservation with the middle age to senior populations. These two populations have the political capital to demand more efforts of conservation from the political entity's that regulate and maintain natural resources. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONCommunity Support Native CommunitiesIndigenous speaker and activist Winona LaDuke says that, "most indigenous ceremonies, if you look to their essence, are about the restoration of balance — they are a reaffirmation of our relationship to creation. That is our intent: to restore, and then to retain balance and honor our part in creation." Why is balance important to sustainability?
Grover Stanturf 10/09/2019 11:56 AMWhen a child first begins to walk one of the foundations of becoming successful is to keep one's balance. In order to sustain the task of walking on a normal basis balance is essential. As humans progressed through time resources were used with little thought to preservation, thus creating a natural debt that must be repaid. In order to repay this debt a balance of consumption and reimbursement of resources must be maintained. Balance is key to the replenishment of resources. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONNature Practice Gratitude for EarthKathleen Dean Moore says that a sense of gratitude leads to a sense of moral obligation. Do you agree? How do we cultivate a sense of gratitude as individuals, and as a society?
Grover Stanturf 10/03/2019 5:06 PMMost humans react to acts of kindness with a sense of reciprocation an acknowledgment that is a form of gratitude. An individual can cultivate a sense of gratitude through the celebration of positive moments, people, and tasks that the individual has or will experience. By passing their positive reflection to others by relaying messages of gratitude, that human reaction to reciprocate is generated and passed on creating the snowball rolling down a hill and growing to boulder like proportions.. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth HappinessHow does/can practicing gratitude keep you centered and motivated to work for a better world?
Grover Stanturf 10/03/2019 4:42 PMBy writing what I am grateful for gives me a mental reinforcement of purpose which in turn gives a positive focus to deal with tasks and demands in my life. -
Grover Stanturf 10/03/2019 12:11 PMMy future! -
Grover Stanturf 10/03/2019 11:49 AMI now have three generations of children on this earth which makes me reflect on what the world was like when I was their age and where we are at now. I know they will not receive the the same world I was born into and that scares and motivates me to protect them. The first actions I chose were small everyday things that I could control which gives me the mind set that step by step environmentalism can be accomplished it's not an impassable mountain. Now with that foundation I can start climbing! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Use Reusable BagsWhat do you do if you find yourself in the situation of needing a bag for items but don't have a reusable one with you? Carry things out in your hands? In a cart? Accept a disposable one? If you find yourself in this position often, what system could you put in place to try to create a successful habit of not using plastic bags?
Grover Stanturf 10/03/2019 11:35 AMI use paper bags when I don't bring my own bag or if it is not many items I carry out without bagging. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Use a Reusable MugMaybe you've heard how good it is to switch from a single use coffee cup to a reusable one, but it's just hard to make the switch. What stands in your way of making this a habit? By identifying the challenges, you can begin to work through them to have better success in taking this action. Knowing the difference you are making, how does it make you feel?
Grover Stanturf 10/03/2019 11:33 AMI guess the heat from an open cup has a pleasant affect on me. So the simple solution is to take the lid off of my cup to sip and get the same affect. By not filling my cup all the way the coffee will stay hot as well. Creating good habits to protect the environment to me is like working on a project that is a gift that my grandchildren and great granddaughter will receive when I am gone. I will not get to see all of the results of the project but I will know I went down fighting the good fight. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEnergy Switch to Cold WaterWhat do you plan to do with the money you save from making more energy efficient choices?
Grover Stanturf 10/03/2019 11:19 AMThe money I save from making more energy efficient choices will be used to generate a fund for environmental politics through donations to energy conservation groups or politicians that fight for environmental issues.
