Food
Watch a Documentary about Food Sovereignty
I will watch 1 documentary(ies) about food sovereignty: the right of local peoples to control their own food systems including markets, ecological resources, food cultures and production methods.
High Impact Action Track
Reduce Single-Use Disposables
Waste
Historically, marginalized and low-income communities live closer to landfills, contributing to a multitude of health problems. I will find out how I can limit single-use items and do my best to limit the waste I generate.
Waste
Recycle Everything I Can
Contamination prevents what is recyclable from being recycled. I will research and recycle all materials that are accepted by local haulers or drop stations in my community, making sure to not contaminate recyclables with non-recyclables.
Waste
Use Reusable Bags
I will not accept any disposable bags when making purchases.
Waste
Use a Reusable Water Bottle
I will keep 3 disposable plastic bottle(s) from entering the waste stream by using a reusable water bottle.
High Impact Action Track
Zero-Waste Cooking
Food
I will cook 1 meal(s) with zero-waste each day
High Impact Action Track
Stay on the Ground
Transportation
Instead of traveling by plane, I will find an alternative way to accomplish the goals of an upcoming trip (i.e. telepresence, vacation locally).

REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Watch a Documentary about Food SovereigntyHow does food sovereignty address the complex agrarian transition to modern food systems?
Jennifer Sabbak 10/11/2019 11:38 AMFood sovereignty addresses the local need for people to be in control of what their food choices are, much related to food security. this is complex because where people live (ecosystems) are vastly different therefore producing and cultivation of foods are different. Poorer communities tend to dwell in urban like settings and are unavailable to the access of fresh fruits and vegetables. Modern food systems must try and fix this scarcity of fresh foods in theses areas. An option maybe something like vertical farming or urbanized farming! -
