Theresa's actions
Food
Plant an Herb Garden
I will plant an herb garden in my home, workplace, or dorm room.
Health
Go get a check up
I will make an appointment for my annual physical.
Health
Take Control
Both systemic and personal sustainability are important! I will develop a plan with my medical professionals to achieve my best health and live my life to the fullest.
Health
Exercise Daily
Exercise is a great stress blaster! I will exercise for 30 minute(s) each day.
Food
Reduce Animal Products
I will enjoy 2 meatless meal(s) and/or 1 vegan meal(s) each day this week.
Transportation
Drive Less
I will cut my car trip mileage by only taking necessary trips.
Waste
Recycle Everything I Can
Contamination prevents what is recyclable from being recycled. I will research and recycle all materials that are accepted by local haulers or drop stations in my community, making sure to not contaminate recyclables with non-recyclables.
Food
Weekly Meal Planning
I will reduce food waste and save money by prepping for 1 meal(s) each day, only buying the ingredients I need.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Reduce Animal ProductsWhy do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our planet and other people?
Theresa Lopez 10/10/2019 2:22 PMIndustrial meat production in the U.S. makes meat cheap and its true costs high (higher than with more sustainable farming practices, both in terms of environmental impact and animal suffering). -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Weekly Meal PlanningAn average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. Does this surprise you? Where would you rather use this money?
Theresa Lopez 10/10/2019 2:20 PMThis does not entirely surprise me, as I sometimes throw out food myself - although the amount spent on wasted food is surprising. -
Theresa Lopez 10/05/2019 1:21 PMThe challenge will help me intentionally choose actions that I can make into habits. I hope to make progress in more healthful eating and eliminating food waste in particular. -
Theresa Lopez 10/03/2019 3:25 PMI did not use any single-use containers today. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Plant an Herb GardenConsider the ways you can garden: a plot of land? a patio container? hanging basket? windowsill gardens? What would work best for your living situation and lifestyle?
Theresa Lopez 10/03/2019 3:24 PMI have only a small deck, but my herb plants are doing well. Acquired a stand so that they can be moved indoors once it's chilly. My basil needs to be replanted - a weekend project!
