    Why do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our planet and other people?

    Industrial meat production in the U.S. makes meat cheap and its true costs high (higher than with more sustainable farming practices, both in terms of environmental impact and animal suffering).

    An average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. Does this surprise you? Where would you rather use this money?

    This does not entirely surprise me, as I sometimes throw out food myself - although the amount spent on wasted food is surprising.

    The challenge will help me intentionally choose actions that I can make into habits. I hope to make progress in more healthful eating and eliminating food waste in particular.

    I have only a small deck, but my herb plants are doing well. Acquired a stand so that they can be moved indoors once it's chilly. My basil needs to be replanted - a weekend project!
