  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Nature Practice Gratitude for Earth
Kathleen Dean Moore says that a sense of gratitude leads to a sense of moral obligation. Do you agree? How do we cultivate a sense of gratitude as individuals, and as a society?

I think feeling grateful creates emotional space to be more generous which could be called a more obligation. I don't know what I actively do anything to cultivate a sense of gratitude specifically but I think being in and appreciating the natural world makes me feel better in all ways including being grateful.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Reduce Animal Products
Why do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our planet and other people?

    Cady Lister's avatar
    Cady Lister 10/23/2019 12:26 PM
Because meat is resource intensive to produce, more resourced countries eat more meat. A meat heavy diet adds to carbon emissions, deforestation, and ag land use for non-human-food crops. Assuming the meat here is commercially raised, I think hunting meat is much better.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Locally-Sourced Meals
If you were to only eat what is in season locally, what would be the hardest food item for you to give up?

I hear you. I just made a strawberry/banana shake this morning. Mine would be mangoes, a leftover love food from my childhood. I only eat them in March though when they show up in P-town.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Water 5-Minute Showers
Five minute showers are an impressive step toward reducing your water footprint. What is the next step you can take?

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Nature Forage for My Food
People are motivated to forage for many different reasons: as a source for food, a means of income, to connect with nature, to participate in cultural tradition, transmitting specific ecological knowledge, or as a means of stewarding local and native plant populations. What is your chief motivation for foraging?

Food Try a New Way to Prep
Canning and pickling food is a great way to have delicious summer fruits and vegetables all year round. Just make sure to follow the canning and pickling guidelines from the USDA. What are some foods that you would like to preserve and enjoy later in the year?

I like to can apple butter this time of year. I've got a great source for local apples. If you'd like to join me LMK. We can find a time.
