REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportation Use Public TransitThe US spends roughly 20% of its federal budget on defense. In contrast, 2% goes to education, 20% goes to social security and 3% goes to transportation infrastructure. Do these numbers surprise you at all? Why or why not? How would you adjust them if you could?
Daniel Kabele 10/15/2019 6:47 AMI believe the answer is clear :-) The situation is different for sure in Europe but even here, transportation infrastructure is yet to be much improved. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportation Work from HomeIt takes the average worker in the United States 26 minutes to travel to work. One way to fix long commutes would be to make cities more affordable. An even simpler option: promote the use of telework. Are you in an industry that would allow you to work from home? What are some obstacles you might find yourself facing while working from home?
Daniel Kabele 10/15/2019 6:44 AMWorking from home is quite common in many industries today. Potential obstacles are less socializing with colleagues, less opportunities to network and to discuss f2f with colleagues which is usually more productive than remotely. There should be a right mix between wfh and office days. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEnergy Turn it offHow is electricity generated where you live? How does it impact the environment, animals, and humans?
Daniel Kabele 10/15/2019 6:39 AMHigh mix of renewable energy such as wind, solar etc. No nuclear power plants. Need more attractive conditions / public programs to support renewable energy solution at private homes, e.g. solar panels on the roof. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEnergy Install Alternative EnergyHow is your region being affected by climate change? How will it be affected in the future?
Daniel Kabele 10/15/2019 6:35 AMVery dry, hot summers. Mild winters. Less rain, more extreme wheather like strong winds, thunderstorms. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEnergy Power Down the ComputerWhat are other easy things you could do to save energy and reduce your environmental footprint?
Daniel Kabele 10/15/2019 6:32 AMTurn off TV from stand-by overnight. Turn off wifi router overnight.
