Zero waste cooking was one of the most fascinating things I've learned. Although it is simple to think about not throwing away food, the hardest part is breaking the habit of throwing away the stems of vegetables. My personal favorite trick I learned is saving onion and garlic ends, carrot and celery ends, vegetable peelings, and zucchini ends in a container then in a couple of days use those veggies to make a broth.

It has finally turned into a habit to use my reusable bags for grocery shopping. :)

Although on some days I don't meet some goals it is still helpful to learn and read about helping the environment. On each action there is a "learn more" button that takes you to different link that teach you more about that action.

Some thing that might be easy is unplugging things that aren't currently being used. I know my boyfriends parents always unplug the T.V. at the end of the night. It might be more of a "hassel" at first but then it just becomes part of your normal routine.

Practicing gratitude puts you in a good mindset. You feel more positive within yourself which leads to feeling motivated to do more.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Waste Use Reusable Bags
What do you do if you find yourself in the situation of needing a bag for items but don't have a reusable one with you? Carry things out in your hands? In a cart? Accept a disposable one? If you find yourself in this position often, what system could you put in place to try to create a successful habit of not using plastic bags?

In this scenario I would I have a couple of options. Depending on how many items I had purchased, I would either opt from a paper bag or most store now sell reusable bags at checkout. A lot of stores now don't even give plastic bags or you have to purchase them.

I did not realize how easy it was to compost. Sometimes things can be simple and right in front of you, but it just the act of doing it that is the hardest.
