stephanie's actions
Transportation
Walk Instead
I will walk 2 mile(s) each day instead of driving and avoid sending up to 2.41 lbs of CO2 into Earth's atmosphere.
Nature
Explore My Area
I will explore at least one new hiking trail or nature walk in my area.
Water
Get Involved in the Water Justice Movement
I will spend at least 20 minutes using the resources provided to learn about water justice and find out how I can get involved in local initiatives.
Nature
Support Local Pollinators
At least 30% of crops and 90% of flowering plants rely on pollinators to produce fruit. I will spend 20 minutes researching which plants support local native pollinators and plant some in my yard.
Community
Support Native Communities
I will use the resource links provided and spend 30 minutes learning about the native populations that lived in my area prior to colonization, and what I can do to support those that still exist.
Nature
Keep a Nature Journal
I will journal each day about my experiences in nature.
Simplicity
Eat Mindfully
I will eat all of my meals without distractions, e.g., phone, computer, TV, or newspaper.

REFLECTION QUESTIONNature Support Local PollinatorsWhy is it important to take care of pollinators?
stephanie hough 10/22/2019 12:33 PMI plant a food garden in the back area of my apartment complex every spring. This year I will make an extra effort to include native plants and vary the shape/color/structure of the garden to encourage other pollinators to feel welcome in the garden too :) -
REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportation Walk InsteadHalf of all trips made in the US are three miles or less; 72% of them are driven. Do you feel that this fact applies to you? If so, how might you incorporate more muscle-powered transportation in your daily life?
stephanie hough 10/22/2019 12:30 PMWalking instead of driving to work is really enjoyable for me. It allows time for reflection and thought, de-stresses, provides an extra opportunity for light exercise and, of course reduces traffic and co2 emissions. I tend to walk to work more in the Fall and Spring when the weather isn't too rainy or too hot, but this year will make an effort to incorporate more walk-commutes year-round. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONNature Keep a Nature JournalWhat natural gifts are you grateful for?
stephanie hough 10/18/2019 12:37 PMI spent 10 minutes listening to the rain, listening for patterns, all the sounds of water. It was a welcome break from the stress and hustle & bustle of life, which allowed me to clear my mind and be appreciative and interactive with the environment.
