Waste
Use Reusable Bags
I will not accept any disposable bags when making purchases.
Waste
Skip the Straw
Plastic bags and small plastic pieces like straws are most likely to get swept into our waterways. I will keep plastic straw(s) out of the landfill and ocean each day by refusing straws or using my own glass/metal straw.

Erica Heaney 10/09/2019 7:13 AMI joined this challenge because I wanted to save the environment and get people to reuse cups and not use straws -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHigh Impact Action Track Talk To My Friends and ColleaguesWhat makes you feel connected to your neighborhood, your neighbors, or another kind of community in your life?
Erica Heaney 10/09/2019 7:12 AMI enjoy having neighbors that sit outside and being in a neighborhood that has so many dogs. It is easy to have small conversations when you see someone walking their dog -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth Know My healthHow do you deal with the physical and emotional stress of the big problems we face? How can you help others cope?
Erica Heaney 10/09/2019 7:11 AMI deal with problems by facing them full on and going to my friends for support. I think it is most important to have friends to be able to talk to and by helping others cope you will learn new methods yourself -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth Go get a check upHow do you practice self care?
Erica Heaney 10/09/2019 7:10 AMI practice self care by using a planner and keeping myself organized. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Use a Reusable Water BottleWhile water bottles are needed for health and safety in certain places, we can do more to reduce the unnecessary use of them. What are the barriers to you using reusable bottles and tap water instead of bottled water? How could you make this a permanent habit?
Erica Heaney 10/09/2019 7:10 AMSo at first it was super hard because my family was not on board with it. But once I got my own water bottle, which came even easier with sports, it was easy to switch. Tap water can taste weird at first, but if you put ice into it that seems to help -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Use a Reusable MugMaybe you've heard how good it is to switch from a single use coffee cup to a reusable one, but it's just hard to make the switch. What stands in your way of making this a habit? By identifying the challenges, you can begin to work through them to have better success in taking this action. Knowing the difference you are making, how does it make you feel?
Erica Heaney 10/09/2019 7:09 AMIt is super easy to make the switch if you allocate for 30 mins of your day to go and buy one. As soon as you buy one reusable mug you'll be buying more. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Skip the StrawHow could you incorporate other "R's" -- reduce, reuse, refuse, repair, repurpose, etc. -- into your lifestyle?
Erica Heaney 10/09/2019 7:08 AMYou can reduce the number of straws used, get a reusable one, refuse one (opt to have a lid that allows no straw)n -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Use Reusable BagsWhat do you do if you find yourself in the situation of needing a bag for items but don't have a reusable one with you? Carry things out in your hands? In a cart? Accept a disposable one? If you find yourself in this position often, what system could you put in place to try to create a successful habit of not using plastic bags?
Erica Heaney 10/09/2019 7:07 AMA way to avoid using plastic bags is by using paper ones if / when possible. If there is an option you can buy a new one which only costs $1. If you must get a disposable one you can always reuse it at home -
Erica Heaney 10/09/2019 7:01 AMMy challenge is going great. Some easy things for me are using a reusable water bottle and no straw. These two have gotten easier since I went out and bought a brand new water bottle so exciting!! and Starbucks and Wegmans now have lids that allow for no straw.
