Reduce Single-Use Disposables

Waste

Historically, marginalized and low-income communities live closer to landfills, contributing to a multitude of health problems. I will find out how I can limit single-use items and do my best to limit the waste I generate.

    Health Take Control
How do environmental health, community health, and your personal health intersect?

My health is contingent upon the health of the natural environment (water, air, soil) and the well-being of my community members (connected, supported, safe), so it only makes sense to nurture all those intersecting elements.

I have been inspired and invigorated by you, my fellow EcoChallengers, and all the care you share to make this world beautiful.

High Impact Action Track Reduce Single-Use Disposables
Bringing your own bags and containers to the grocery store, and even to restaurants for leftovers, are a couple of ways to reduce your waste. What single-use items (e.g. straws, coffee cups, vegetable bags, plastic bags) do you regularly use? What could be substituted instead?

Glass jars are my go-to containers for purchasing items from the bulk bins. Easy to care for and allow a quick visual to see what I need to replenish in my pantry.

Finding new spots to hike or kayak adds to my awareness of the unique plants and animals that reside in our community and enriches my appreciation of the beauty and wonder of our region. Plus I get my daily dose of Vitamin D-and we all need more of that!

Why is it important to take care of pollinators?

Pollinators make many of our foods and flowers possible, so taking care of them keeps the circle of life going.

    Nature Enjoy the Sunrise/Sunset
Father Thomas Berry says, "...our primary purpose is celebration. Celebration of the dawn and the sunset and the different seasons of the year is a religious ritual, a way in which humans can establish their integral relationship with the universe, with the planet Earth." Respond to Berry's assertion.

The sunrises and sunsets this time of year are so stunning! Enjoying the beauty of the dawn and dusk helps ease me into this new season in a positive light (pun intended)!
