Waste

Reduce Single-Use Disposables

Historically, marginalized and low-income communities live closer to landfills, contributing to a multitude of health problems. I will find out how I can limit single-use items and do my best to limit the waste I generate.

I was actually surprised it wasn't more. We have slowly over the years been going to more energy efficient items like light bulbs and went to geo thermal. It has made a huge difference.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Waste Choose Two-Sided Printing
Choosing two-sided printing can be an easy adjustment on your computer settings. How can you help others make this same switch? Can it be encouraged company wide?

Our Company made this switch a while back.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Nature Leave No Trace
Educator Stephanie Kaza advises her students to focus on what they care about most when addressing the enormity of ecological problems. Is there a specific area you feel particularly called to work on?

I feel blessed to have the opportunity to be able to help teach 9-10 1st grade girls through our Girl Scout troop about taking care of the world we live in. Teaching them about leaving no trace and how it applies when not only camping but living our daily lives.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Waste Reduce Single-Use Disposables
Bringing your own bags and containers to the grocery store, and even to restaurants for leftovers, are a couple of ways to reduce your waste. What single-use items (e.g. straws, coffee cups, vegetable bags, plastic bags) do you regularly use? What could be substituted instead?

The items I use the most is single serve snacks. I will start buying items that can be split into single serving, but can be reused so less goes to the landfill. Mainly for kids activities and such.

As I continue to clean out what is not needed I am hoping that the daily reminder just looking around to less mess will keep me on track
