It was great meeting Mike Johnson today. His presentation on global warming was eye opening . I'm thankful to be apart of a company who is making a difference in reducing its carbon footprint for a better today and tomorrow .

    Simplicity Have a Garage Sale
Building community is good for your soul and fun to do! What were some of the positive outcomes that came out of your group garage sale?

    Heather Craddock's avatar
    Heather Craddock 10/22/2019 1:53 PM
From my group garage sale this summer, I was able to get to know my neighbor more, interact with neighbors I hadn't met before that day and sale items that I'm no longer using to someone who could use the items (instead of throwing them away).

How do you practice self care?

I practice self care by exercising, eating healthy, taking vitamins, drinking water and having yearly check-ups.

Waste Use a Reusable Water Bottle
While water bottles are needed for health and safety in certain places, we can do more to reduce the unnecessary use of them. What are the barriers to you using reusable bottles and tap water instead of bottled water? How could you make this a permanent habit?

    Heather Craddock 10/21/2019 1:46 PM
I believe I have made strides in making reusable bottles a habit. I was given a nice reusable bottle by my company that either keeps my beverage cold or hot. I use it daily, still occassionally buying the plastic water bottle when I've forgotten my reusable bottle and am on the go.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Transportation Work from Home
It takes the average worker in the United States 26 minutes to travel to work. One way to fix long commutes would be to make cities more affordable. An even simpler option: promote the use of telework. Are you in an industry that would allow you to work from home? What are some obstacles you might find yourself facing while working from home?

    Heather Craddock 10/21/2019 1:43 PM
I would love to telework and we have the ability to do so. There are many advantages to telework. One advantage that I've noticed first hand is the ability to get more work done. Distractions are tremendous in the office.
There can also obstacles to telework. One being collaboration with coworkers. Although you can collaberate remotely, working face to face is important, especially when working on a project.

How can you incorporate other personal values (like quality time with friends or spending time in nature) into your exercise routine?

I can go for a run with a friend or family members in the park. We have a nice park near us that has running/walking trails. I can do yoga with my kids. I can rake the leaves so the kids can play in them. All these things sounds like fun activities for me, my family and friends.

Food Watch a Documentary about Food Sovereignty
How does food sovereignty address the complex agrarian transition to modern food systems?

    Heather Craddock's avatar
    Heather Craddock 10/14/2019 1:58 PM
I believe because we have made it SO hard for farmers to farm and make a decent profit, it has caused our society to become obese because they rely heavily on processed foods which are cheap to produce. Our bodies don't recognize processed foods and essentially don't know what to do with it causing terrible diseases.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Whole Foods Diet
Michael Pollan states that “it is better to pay the grocer (our edit: or the farmer!) than the doctor.” What are your thoughts on this idea?

    Heather Craddock's avatar
    Heather Craddock 10/14/2019 1:50 PM
I agree 100%! I've seen it happen in my group of friends as well as my own life. I changed my eating habits about 18 months ago and have seen a tremendous difference in my health, weight and overall wellness.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Weekly Meal Planning
An average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. Does this surprise you? Where would you rather use this money?

    Heather Craddock's avatar
    Heather Craddock 10/14/2019 1:48 PM
No. I'm not surprised. I hate throwing away food and am an advocate of leftovers until they are gone. I could use the money that is essentially "thrown away" to pay off debt in an effort to be debt free.
