Because it reduces landfill, saves trees, paper manufacturing is pretty darn gross Effluents from pulp and paper mills are highly toxic and are a major source of aquatic pollution. Waste Find Local Recycling Depots

Our ability to recycle certain things ebbs and flows based upon many factors. Luckily there are places that accept uncommon things to recycle or dispose of in a less harmful way. What did you find when looking for places to recycle items that can't be recycled in your curbside bin?

Out in Troutdale where I live, the y do an annual recycling event for large electronics, appliances, and other like devices that would normally go to a landfill. These things (computers, microwaves, TVs, etc.) do have a lot of components that are harmful to the environment, so if the item is not in a workable condition to where it can be donated and/or repaired, this keeps it all from just going to a dump, and the more harmful components can be properly mitigated before disposal.

Hoping the old girl will be more into a good walk tonight as the weather is slightly better today than Sunday - she was not having the rain lol Even my dog apparently doesn't like the smell of wet dog....
Or maybe she doesn't like the smell of wet human????? Probably the wet human is more accurate....

My "exercise partner" Ginnie the mutt dog, is definitely feeling all 13 years of her age, so I couldn't get in a full 30 minutes of our normal brisk walk around Edgefield, so we had to do about 5 shorter walks. Getting old sucks....

We have been using cloth napkins at home for several months now - much less paper waste and the kids aren't using half a roll of paper towels every time they need to clean up a mess.

so Monday's exercise took a hit as I was feeling pretty cruddy, but I did have to take my big goofy dog out to do her business and so she could smell what seemed like every single blade of grass. I was able to do more later into the evening once I felt better, but still not quite to the level that I would consider it exercise.

High Impact Action Track Learn About Local Environmental Justice Concerns

Who is most affected by environmental degration and/or environmental irresponsiblity in your community? How are they affected?

The peoples who inhabited these areas before we arrive - they lived off the resources nature provided - taking only what they needed and using every bit of what was harvested. Damming the Columbia certainly had a massive impact on the native people's ability to harvest salmon - a huge food staple for the region. Pollution flowing into the waterways impacts the entire ecosystem. Slash and burn logging destroys natural habitat for wildlife and allows for greater impacts from erosion due to soil run off. Worst is when human ineptitude and ignorance causes wildfires. Eagle Creek is a very recent example of this, and certainly impacted the greater metro area with the poor air quality, as well as the destruction of the enviorment.
