High Impact Action Track
Zero-Waste Cooking
Food
I will cook 1 meal(s) with zero-waste each day
Simplicity
Needs Vs. Wants
I will adopt a "Needs Vs. Wants" approach and only buy things I need.
Waste
Learn About & Practice Sustainable Fashion
I will spend 3 minutes learning about sustainable fashion and begin trying to practice it in my own life.
Waste
Carry my Trash
I will carry all of my unrecyclable, non-compostable trash with me to raise my awareness of how much I send to the landfill.
Food
Buy From a Farmers Market
I will purchase produce and meat from a local farmers market or food co-op.
Energy
Choose Clean/Renewable Energy
I will sign up for my utility company's clean/renewable energy option.
Energy
Online Energy Audit
I will complete an online energy audit of my home, office, or dorm room and identify my next steps for saving energy.
Food
Advocate for More Food Options
Access to affordable, nutritious food is a food justice issue. I will advocate for local and/or organic food options at work, on campus and/or in the spaces I frequent.
Waste
Reduce Single-Use Disposables
Historically, marginalized and low-income communities live closer to landfills, contributing to a multitude of health problems. I will find out how I can limit single-use items and do my best to limit the waste I generate.
Health
Know My health
I will get my Core Four Biometrics tests (blood pressure, cholesterol, blood sugar and BMI).
Waste
Use a Reusable Water Bottle
I will keep 1 disposable plastic bottle(s) from entering the waste stream by using a reusable water bottle.
Waste
Advocate For More Food Packaging Options
I will advocate for alternatives to single-use packaging at local grocery stores, markets, at work, or on campus.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.

Kimberly Candelaria 10/17/2019 7:15 AMSo what is your opinion about not flushing urine at home? I think it's a good way to save water, I just am in such a habit of flushing I always forget. -
Kimberly Candelaria 10/16/2019 7:19 AMIn the City of Rio Rancho if you install low flow toilets you can apply for a rebate and get back $100.00. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHigh Impact Action Track Zero-Waste CookingIn North America, up to 65% of food waste happens at the consumer level. Chef Steven Satterfield advocates for utilizing every part of a vegetable. How can you incorporate using an entire vegetable, including the skins, tops, and stalks during your next meal prep?
Kimberly Candelaria 10/15/2019 6:47 AMThis is a difficult one to complete since so many items are wrapped in some sort of packaging. I think the best option is to just eat a piece of fruit. So I grabbed a banana from downstairs and dug a hole and put the banana peel in back in the ground. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEnergy Choose Clean/Renewable EnergyHow might you be able to get others involved in advocating for the shift to clean energy?
Kimberly Candelaria 10/14/2019 6:51 AMEducating people about Solar Power in the State of NM is a big step. We have so many bright blue days here, if 1/2 the people had solar panels we could power the state by solar. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEnergy Online Energy AuditWhat most interested or surprised you about your own energy footprint?
Kimberly Candelaria 10/14/2019 6:48 AMSwitched out my outside light bulbs with more energy efficient ones. They seem brighter to me also. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Buy From a Farmers MarketWhat is one food choice that you make, or could make, that would do more good and less harm?
Kimberly Candelaria 10/11/2019 7:06 AMWe are lucky to live in such a agricultural rich state. We have some amazing options at our farmers markets.
