Charles's actions
Waste
Recycle Everything I Can
Contamination prevents what is recyclable from being recycled. I will research and recycle all materials that are accepted by local haulers or drop stations in my community, making sure to not contaminate recyclables with non-recyclables.
Energy
Heat and Cool Naturally
I will naturally heat and cool my house, office, or dorm room by opening or closing my windows, curtains, and blinds, and by using fans.
Waste
Use a Reusable Water Bottle
I will keep 2 disposable plastic bottle(s) from entering the waste stream by using a reusable water bottle.
Energy
Turn it off
I will keep lights, electronics, and appliances turned off when not using them.
Waste
Skip the Straw
Plastic bags and small plastic pieces like straws are most likely to get swept into our waterways. I will keep 3 plastic straw(s) out of the landfill and ocean each day by refusing straws or using my own glass/metal straw.

REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Recycle Everything I CanWhat have you learned about what is accepted by local haulers for recycling, what you can drop off or ship to certain places, and what is not recyclable in your area? What is the most difficult part of recycling for you?
Charles Zahir 10/02/2019 7:15 AMThe most difficult part of recycling is remembering what is recyclable and what isn’t. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Use a Reusable Water BottleWhile water bottles are needed for health and safety in certain places, we can do more to reduce the unnecessary use of them. What are the barriers to you using reusable bottles and tap water instead of bottled water? How could you make this a permanent habit?
Charles Zahir 10/02/2019 7:11 AMThe barrier is I might not have water access to refill the bottle and would have to carry the bottle around and it would be useless but I have to deal with it I stead of using plastic water bottles

REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Skip the StrawHow could you incorporate other "R's" -- reduce, reuse, refuse, repair, repurpose, etc. -- into your lifestyle?
Charles Zahir 10/02/2019 7:07 AMI can reuse water bottles to store ingredients such as flour and popcorn kernels. I can reduce by using washable silverware instead of plastic. I can repurpose by using plastic bottles to make art. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEnergy Heat and Cool NaturallyWhat are other ways you could use the power of the sun to reduce your own environmental footprint?
Charles Zahir 10/02/2019 7:04 AMI can use the sun to grow a garden instead of using lights in my house that washers electricity. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEnergy Turn it offHow is electricity generated where you live? How does it impact the environment, animals, and humans?
Charles Zahir 10/02/2019 7:02 AMWe use generators for electricity and if they use gas it effects the air because if pollution. The smoke effects the air that we breathe and of effects animals because they breathe the same air.
