Lukasz's actions
Waste
Recycle Everything I Can
Contamination prevents what is recyclable from being recycled. I will research and recycle all materials that are accepted by local haulers or drop stations in my community, making sure to not contaminate recyclables with non-recyclables.
Energy
Turn it off
I will keep lights, electronics, and appliances turned off when not using them.
Energy
Choose LED Bulbs
I will replace 20 incandescent lightbulb(s) with Energy Star-certified LED bulbs, saving up to $14 per fixture per year.
Waste
Go Paperless
I will reduce the amount of paper mail that I receive by 3.4lbs (1.5kg) a month or 41lbs (18.6kg) a year by opting into paperless billing, ending unwanted subscriptions and opting out of junk mail.
Waste
Advocate For More Food Packaging Options
I will advocate for alternatives to single-use packaging at local grocery stores, markets, at work, or on campus.
Energy
Replace Manual Thermostats
I will replace manual thermostats with programmable ones.

Use Reusable Bags
I will not accept any disposable bags when making purchases.

Switch to Cold Water
I will switch to washing my clothes in cold water, saving up to 1,600 lbs of CO2 over the course of the next year.

REFLECTION QUESTIONEnergy Turn it offHow is electricity generated where you live? How does it impact the environment, animals, and humans?
Lukasz Wisniewski 10/22/2019 2:39 PMIn Poland unfortunately most electricity is generated by coal-fueled power stations. Their impact on environment and living organisms is massive. They cause degradation of air quality (by emitting toxic substances). Substantial emission of carbon dioxide increase green house effect, which leads to increase of global warming. Moreover those power stations contribute to acid rains and produce a lot of wastewater. Of course all of those factors have a very negative influence on animals and humans health. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Use a Reusable Water BottleWhile water bottles are needed for health and safety in certain places, we can do more to reduce the unnecessary use of them. What are the barriers to you using reusable bottles and tap water instead of bottled water? How could you make this a permanent habit?
Lukasz Wisniewski 10/22/2019 2:08 PMThe barriers are very plain ones - it is a deeply ingrained habit plus it is easier and time saving to use disposable bottle than to wash reusable one. How could I change this? - I must make the effort, buy a reusable bottle and start using it :) -
REFLECTION QUESTIONNature Plant TreesHow is planting trees good for your mental, physical, and spiritual health?
Lukasz Wisniewski 10/22/2019 1:58 PMPlanting trees requires physical effort which is good for your health and at the same time very relaxing. Seeing green trees around soothes the eyes and soul. Moreover after planting a tree you have a feeling that you did something really good and that makes your feel better about yourself. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHigh Impact Action Track Research Impact InvestingHow might impact investing help you better live your values?
Lukasz Wisniewski 10/22/2019 1:52 PMIt can enable me to act environmentally friendly in workplace (e.g. trash sorting in workplace). Moreover it can bring motivation to stick to my values even if it means making the effort. -
Lukasz Wisniewski 10/19/2019 12:42 PMI planted two trees today - fun for children and helping the environment in one :) -
Lukasz Wisniewski 10/17/2019 2:22 AMI turn off the phone at night, so I don't have to charge it so often - saving energy ;) -
Lukasz Wisniewski 10/16/2019 1:22 PMIf you have a 5 l plastic bottle, you can build a bird feeder - after all winter is coming ;) -
Lukasz Wisniewski 10/16/2019 1:12 PMIf you are shopping and do not have a reusable bag with you, you can always ask for a paper one. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEnergy Switch to Cold WaterWhat do you plan to do with the money you save from making more energy efficient choices?
Lukasz Wisniewski 10/15/2019 2:49 PMI plan to spend the saved money on making my home more energy-efficient. More specifically, I would like to exchange old windows to new three-glass ones, that would keep the heat inside the house and also would protect from outside noises. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEnergy Replace Manual ThermostatsHow do you anticipate replacing your thermostats for programmable ones will positively impact your life?
Lukasz Wisniewski 10/15/2019 1:32 PMBig plus of programmable thermostats is their ability to help maintain the perfect, constant temperature at home without adjusting knob a million times. Thermostats, in which you can program a time schedule, are very ecological, because they don't need to work all the time for you to have your home warm when you e.g. go back home from work. And last but not least they help you save money :)
