Waste
Historically, marginalized and low-income communities live closer to landfills, contributing to a multitude of health problems. I will find out how I can limit single-use items and do my best to limit the waste I generate.

REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth Take ControlHow do environmental health, community health, and your personal health intersect?
Theresa Wiese 10/23/2019 2:45 PMMy personal health is directly affected by the health of the environment around me. The healthier the community is, the more likely that there are opportunities to have better personal health through community activities. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONFood Plant an Herb GardenConsider the ways you can garden: a plot of land? a patio container? hanging basket? windowsill gardens? What would work best for your living situation and lifestyle?
Theresa Wiese 10/23/2019 2:43 PMI planted mine in small containers that I can keep inside over the cold winters where I live. -
Theresa Wiese 10/23/2019 2:39 PMIt's hard to believe the ecochallenge is already coming to a close. I have become more aware of little steps I can make that add up to a bigger impact over time. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONEnergy Switch to Cold WaterWhat do you plan to do with the money you save from making more energy efficient choices?
Theresa Wiese 10/23/2019 2:37 PMI will save that money for a rainy day fund - always good to have a little savings handy for the unexpected. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Use a Reusable MugMaybe you've heard how good it is to switch from a single use coffee cup to a reusable one, but it's just hard to make the switch. What stands in your way of making this a habit? By identifying the challenges, you can begin to work through them to have better success in taking this action. Knowing the difference you are making, how does it make you feel?
Theresa Wiese 10/23/2019 2:36 PMI don't always have my reusable cup with me when I am on the go. I work around this by keeping reusable cups available at work and home, so I have one available most of the time. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHigh Impact Action Track Reduce Single-Use DisposablesBringing your own bags and containers to the grocery store, and even to restaurants for leftovers, are a couple of ways to reduce your waste. What single-use items (e.g. straws, coffee cups, vegetable bags, plastic bags) do you regularly use? What could be substituted instead?
Theresa Wiese 10/22/2019 6:37 AMI still use single serving packaged items for lunch due to the convenience and portion control. I could purchase larger packages and separate them into reusable smaller packages. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONSimplicity De-Clutter My HomeHow can you prevent yourself from accumulating more things in the future?
Theresa Wiese 10/21/2019 1:19 PMI will try to be more mindful of acquiring new belongings. If I buy some new clothing, I will check my closet for other items that can be donated or repurposed. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONHealth Healthy SleepConsider how many hours of sleep you get now. How would you like to shift your sleep patterns? What are you finding works for you to be successful in this action?
Theresa Wiese 10/21/2019 1:16 PMI need to work at getting myself to bed a little earlier during the week. By Friday, the sleep deficit can really drag you down!
