Over the last few decades, the exploitation of our planet and degradation of our environment have  gone up at an alarming rate. As our actions have been not in favor of protecting this planet, we have seen natural disasters striking us more often in the form of flash floods, tsunamis and cyclones.

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Water
What are the most prominent water concerns in your area? Examples include drought, flooding, pollution, access, security, and privatization.

    Ramya Venkatakrishnan 10/22/2019 10:05 PM
Today, droughts and floods are a common feature and their co-existence poses a potent threat, which cannot be eradicated but has to be managed. Transfer of the surplus monsoon water to areas of water deficit is a potential possibility. This would also help create additional irrigational potential, the generation of hydropower, as well as overcoming regional imbalances.

How does/can practicing gratitude keep you centered and motivated to work for a better world?

    Ramya Venkatakrishnan 10/22/2019 10:03 PM
Gratitude reduces materialism. ... The problem with materialism is that it makes people feel less competent, reduces feelings of relatedness and gratitude, reduces their ability to appreciate and enjoy the good in life, generates negative emotions, and makes them more self-centered

Choosing two-sided printing can be an easy adjustment on your computer settings. How can you help others make this same switch? Can it be encouraged company wide?

    • The default setting on the print drivers is set to 2-sided already. You have to go into setting to change this.  So it's good that KSC did this already!

  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Water
How do you think climate change will affect your region’s water supply? Think about the effects of weather, storms, salinity, and sea level rise, among other changes. How can you find out more about climate change’s impact to your region's water?

    Ramya Venkatakrishnan's avatar
    Ramya Venkatakrishnan 10/20/2019 10:51 PM
Water resources are important to both society and ecosystems. We depend on a reliable, clean supply of drinking water to sustain our health. We also need water for agriculture, energy production, navigation, recreation, and manufacturing. Many of these uses put pressure on water resources, stresses that are likely to be exacerbated by climate change

How is your region being affected by climate change? How will it be affected in the future?

    Ramya Venkatakrishnan's avatar
    Ramya Venkatakrishnan 10/16/2019 9:53 PM
Unchecked global warming could affect most terrestrial ecoregions. Increasing global temperature means that ecosystems will change; some species are being forced out of their habitats (possibly to extinction) because of changing conditions, while others are flourishing.
