Today I've got nothing. Volunteered 6.5 hours at an event. I spent money I really didn't need to. I'm done with today. Hope everyone had a great weekend!

I'm hoping to make time tonight to learn a new method of processing food. A friend gaveme a bunch of carrots from her garden. Canning seems to require a pressure cooker which i don't have, but dehydrating or freezing are viable options. Both require blanching the carrots first which I've never done. *crossing fingers*
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Weekly Meal Planning
An average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. Does this surprise you? Where would you rather use this money?

The food waste doesn't surprise me. I need to try harder to avoid food waste. There are tons of ways is rather use the money - travel, weekend away, classes.

Needs vs wants... i wanted to scream and find kickboxing equipment. Since I couldn't do either - I needed hot cocoa and somebody else to cook for me. So I took myself to Denny,s. Though ❤ people at the next table heard me tell my waiter i had a bad afternoon and needed hot cocoa - so they surprised me by paying my bill, and hoped it would brighten my day.  It did! ❤

I know this is stretching "needs vs wants" but sometimes that's what it is.

Food Buy From a Farmers Market
What is one food choice that you make, or could make, that would do more good and less harm?

Eat local, ethically harvested, wild or urban harvested foods.

High Impact Action Track Plant Trees
How is planting trees good for your mental, physical, and spiritual health?

    Shawna Troyer's avatar

Mentally it helps distance oneself from the daily grind and gives a burst of positivity for doing something for the planet. Physically it's quite a workout! Spiritually?  It helps reconnect with earth and one could turn it into a meditative and prayerful experience. Sadly I was too focused on the physical aspect of actually digging and planting trees that I didn't appreciate the spiritual aspect at the time.

One pound equals one pint. Who knew? (My mathematically inclined friend new from a kids rhyme he learned). 3 lbs of chopped up plums makes 1 pint of BBQ sauce. I've made at least 16 pints of BBQ sauce this year.

Never go shopping when hungry - we all know this! - but I do it anyways. Yesterday a quick "I'm running into the store to check ingredients on a spice I purchased previously, not buying anything" turned into a $30 shopping spree. Oops.
