Michael's actions
Waste
Use Reusable Bags
I will not accept any disposable bags when making purchases.
Water
Say No to Plastic Straws
An estimated 71% of seabirds and 30% of turtles have been found with plastics in their stomachs. When they ingest plastic, marine life has a 50% mortality rate. By asking for no straw when placing a drink order, I will keep 6 plastic straw(s) of out of the ocean each day.
Water
5-Minute Showers
I will save up to 20 gallons (75 L) of water each day by taking 5-minute showers.
Waste
Use a Reusable Water Bottle
I will keep 10 disposable plastic bottle(s) from entering the waste stream by using a reusable water bottle.
Waste
Advocate For More Food Packaging Options
I will advocate for alternatives to single-use packaging at local grocery stores, markets, at work, or on campus.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

Michael Thomsen 10/16/2019 5:30 AMOkay so my Eco challenge is doing good but the planet isn't. Honestly there is nothing really hard with this stuff it's just my daily routine. I believe this site is probably the most helpful thing to do because honestly the government does literally nothing. The only challenge that was kinda hard was the bag one because when the store employees ask me if I may want to use a bag I dunno how to respond to it.-
Susan Niver 10/20/2019 4:53 PMI see people carrying things out of stores without a bag. As long as it's not too many pieces, you could try to do that sometimes! -
Nicholas Callahan 10/16/2019 5:33 AMIt is pretty cool that you can have a daily routine that helps the planet
