Jean's actions
Waste
Use Reusable Bags
I will not accept any disposable bags when making purchases.
Waste
Skip the Straw
Plastic bags and small plastic pieces like straws are most likely to get swept into our waterways. I will keep 5 plastic straw(s) out of the landfill and ocean each day by refusing straws or using my own glass/metal straw.
Waste
Find Local Recycling Depots
I will spend at least 60 minutes finding out where to recycle the recyclable items that I can't put in my curbside bin.
Nature
Do Nature Activities
I will engage in nature-based activities alone, or with my friends or family, for 10 minute(s) each day. (This can be anything from going on a walk or hike, to noticing the leaves changing color, to reading a book with nature themes.)
Nature
Spend Time Outside
I will replace 20 minute(s) each day typically spent inside (computer time, watching television, etc.) with quality time outside.

Jean Taylor 10/18/2019 6:20 AMI've reused plastic grocery bags as garbage bags in the past. With reusable grocery bags, I now need to come up with an eco-friendly alternative to plastic garbage bags, that don't leak. -
Jean Taylor 10/17/2019 10:34 AMThis challenge and the issue of plastic waste reminds me of a photo in National Geographic of a seahorse with its tail wrapped around a Q-tip. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Skip the StrawHow could you incorporate other "R's" -- reduce, reuse, refuse, repair, repurpose, etc. -- into your lifestyle?
Jean Taylor 10/07/2019 10:28 AMLooked at the options for purchasing reusable straws. Collapsible, reusable straws would be convenient, but I didn't find any in the stores where I checked. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Use Reusable BagsWhat do you do if you find yourself in the situation of needing a bag for items but don't have a reusable one with you? Carry things out in your hands? In a cart? Accept a disposable one? If you find yourself in this position often, what system could you put in place to try to create a successful habit of not using plastic bags?
Jean Taylor 10/07/2019 10:25 AMI re-used a plastic bags for wet produce, rather than disposing of the old using a new one. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Find Local Recycling DepotsOur ability to recycle certain things ebbs and flows based upon many factors. Luckily there are places that accept uncommon things to recycle or dispose of in a less harmful way. What did you find when looking for places to recycle items that can't be recycled in your curbside bin?
