  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Whole Foods Diet
Michael Pollan states that “it is better to pay the grocer (our edit: or the farmer!) than the doctor.” What are your thoughts on this idea?

I think it's a slightly dramatic way of expressing that we need to live more holistically in order to reduce the amount of time we see the doctor for ailments. But I do agree that focusing on eating nourishing foods enhances well-being and longevity immensely.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Meet My Local Farmers
When you know who produces your food, you are connecting personally to your complex regional food system. What are the advantages of knowing who produces your food and where it comes from? Do you think this might enable someone to advocate for a better quality of life for those who produce their food, both near and far?

Yes, I think being disconnected from the things we consume only allows us to be more mindless about our choices. If we connect with the people and the processes that help sustain us, then we have a more personal connection to those things and experience more empathy.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Health Healthy Sleep
Consider how many hours of sleep you get now. How would you like to shift your sleep patterns? What are you finding works for you to be successful in this action?

I will turn off all electronics an hour before bed in order to help myself fall asleep better.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Nature Forage for My Food
People are motivated to forage for many different reasons: as a source for food, a means of income, to connect with nature, to participate in cultural tradition, transmitting specific ecological knowledge, or as a means of stewarding local and native plant populations. What is your chief motivation for foraging?

  • REFLECTION QUESTION

Why do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our planet and other people?

Ate vegan all day today! I didn't realize how much cheaper it is to source vegan proteins from whole foods like beans and lentils!

I smile at more people as well as make more meaningful eye contact while on my bicycle. This helps me feel more connected to the community around me, and experience less road rage.
