Renganathan's actions
Waste
Visit a Waste Management Facility
I will spend at least 60 minutes visiting a local dump/transfer station, material recovery facility, and/or landfill to learn about the waste stream.
Food
Locally-Sourced Meals
I will source 1 meal(s) each day from local producers.
Health
More Fruits and Veggies
I will eat a heart healthy diet by adding 2 cup(s) of fruits and vegetables each day to achieve at least 4 cups per day.
Waste
Advocate For More Food Packaging Options
I will advocate for alternatives to single-use packaging at local grocery stores, markets, at work, or on campus.
High Impact Action Track
Reduce Single-Use Disposables
Waste
Historically, marginalized and low-income communities live closer to landfills, contributing to a multitude of health problems. I will find out how I can limit single-use items and do my best to limit the waste I generate.
Waste
Compost Food Waste
I will avoid sending up to .69 lbs (.31 kg) of food waste to the landfill each day by composting my food or learning how to.
Health
Know My health
I will get my Core Four Biometrics tests (blood pressure, cholesterol, blood sugar and BMI).
Simplicity
Needs Vs. Wants
I will adopt a "Needs Vs. Wants" approach and only buy things I need.
Participant Feed

REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Advocate For More Food Packaging OptionsWhat concerns you the most about how we are affecting the planet? Consider both local and global actions.
Renganathan Subramanyam 10/14/2019 5:11 PMHow can we incentivize the average consumer to even think about the issue of using single use plastics for beverages, milk, juices, etc? Though glass bottles are offered on some products, and cardboard cartons with plastic spouts on a few others, the vast majority of products choices are still only available in single use plastic at most grocery stores and supermarkets. All ideas welcome. -
Renganathan Subramanyam 10/14/2019 5:04 PMReally educational and eye opening visit to the Boulder Recycling Center (Boulder, CO) - one of the leaders in the country on advanced recycling processes. They have a really good guided tour for groups of 10 or more people (needs advanced reservation). You get to see first hand, the whole process and challenges of actually processing recycling, real insights into what can and cannot be recycled etc (shocking how so much non recyclable stuff ends up there). Strongly recommended!
