Say No to Plastic Straws

An estimated 71% of seabirds and 30% of turtles have been found with plastics in their stomachs. When they ingest plastic, marine life has a 50% mortality rate. By asking for no straw when placing a drink order, I will keep 1 plastic straw(s) of out of the ocean each day.

I am more conscious about taking quicker showers and try to wash my hair every other day instead of every day to lessen my product use and water consumption.

    Food Weekly Meal Planning
An average American throws out about 240 lbs of food per year. The average family of four spends $1,500 a year on food that they throw out. Does this surprise you? Where would you rather use this money?

I went to Schnucks and prepped 5 meals this week, including one today, of whole wheat tortillas and cheese to make quesadillas. I did not buy any excess of ingredients.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION

By using a reusable water bottle I am already saying no to plastic straws a lot more. However, I am practicing not using plastic straws with my coffee, such as at Starbucks. I did this today!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
Waste Use a Reusable Water Bottle
While water bottles are needed for health and safety in certain places, we can do more to reduce the unnecessary use of them. What are the barriers to you using reusable bottles and tap water instead of bottled water? How could you make this a permanent habit?

Sometimes if I am getting coffee, especially from Starbucks or cherry tree, it's hard to use a reusable bottle! However, drinking water from a reusable bottle is something I can control and aim to work on. Yesterday, for example, I did not use the plastic BD cups, and instead remembered to bring down my reusable water bottle and filled that up.
