When I walk or bike to work instead of driving, I notice my surroundings and feel a part of the world instead of being insulated from it. Just this morning, I rode by a house that had a really lovely front garden with a low wall and some nice plantings. Since we're planning to do something similar, I stopped and took a pic. Never would've happened if I'd been driving.

High Impact Action Track
Research Impact Investing
Simplicity
Using the links provided below, I will research impact investing and deterimine if it is right for me.
Transportation
Go by Bike
I will commute by bike 5 mile(s) each day and avoid sending up to 6.74 lbs of CO2 into Earth's atmosphere.
Nature
Explore My Area
I will explore at least one new hiking trail or nature walk in my area.
Health
Learn About Local Environmental Justice Concerns
I will spend 15 minutes researching environmental justice concerns in my region, their causes, and local initiatives to address these concerns.
Transportation
Work from Home
I will work from home 4 day(s) to avoid my commute's carbon output.
Waste
Go Paperless
I will reduce the amount of paper mail that I receive by 3.4lbs (1.5kg) a month or 41lbs (18.6kg) a year by opting into paperless billing, ending unwanted subscriptions and opting out of junk mail.
Waste
Recycle Everything I Can
Contamination prevents what is recyclable from being recycled. I will research and recycle all materials that are accepted by local haulers or drop stations in my community, making sure to not contaminate recyclables with non-recyclables.
Waste
Find Local Recycling Depots
I will spend at least 10 minutes finding out where to recycle the recyclable items that I can't put in my curbside bin.
Simplicity
Meditate
I will meditate or create a moment of silence for 10 minute(s) each day to reflect on things important to me.
Simplicity
Go for a Daily Walk
I will take a walk for 40 minutes each day.
Health
Audit Toxic Cleaning Products in my Home
I will spend 20 minutes researching toxic chemicals found in cleaning supplies and personal care products and remove them from my home.
Energy
Switch to Cold Water
I will switch to washing my clothes in cold water, saving up to 1,600 lbs of CO2 over the course of the next year.
Health
Happiness
I will write down three things every day that I am grateful for, or send one email every day thanking or praising someone.
Create Your Own Action
Research BeeKeeping
I've been interESTED IN bEEKEEPING FOR A WHILE NOW, BUT HAVEN'T REALLY DONE A LOT OF RESEARCH ON IT. i WILL COMMIT TO AT LEAST THAT WITH THE HOPE THAT i CAN TAKE A CLASS AND PURCHASE SUPPLIES TO GET STARTED.
Nature
Support Local Pollinators
At least 30% of crops and 90% of flowering plants rely on pollinators to produce fruit. I will spend 15 minutes researching which plants support local native pollinators and plant some in my yard.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportation Go by BikeHow do your transportation choices affect your engagement in your community? Does your experience differ while walking, riding transit, biking, or driving?

Linn Stanley 10/03/2019 7:46 AMI'm literally on a roll. Biked in again today for the grand opening of the new "bike barn" at work. The dedicated space can hold up to 90 bikes using "The arc." pushbike racks and is free for building tenants! Very nice. -
Linn Stanley 10/02/2019 9:11 AMI rode my bike into work for the first time in a long time! Hoping to do this more often moving forward. -
Linn Stanley 9/26/2019 12:51 PMI'm feeling guilt for the blasé attitude I've had in the past about my own actions (or lack of action) and their impact. I'm going to take that guilt derived energy and try to direct it towards something more helpful by making some meaningful changes. I'm hoping to get ideas and motivation from this upcoming EcoChallenge.
