It's sad that today is the last day of the Eco-Challenge but this has encouraged me to take sustainable steps to save our planet and be more health conscious.

Today we each Dept got to plant something. Our team planted Basil. Can't wait to see it grow. :)
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Plant an Herb Garden
Consider the ways you can garden: a plot of land? a patio container? hanging basket? windowsill gardens? What would work best for your living situation and lifestyle?

We planted some cilantros as we use it a lot in our dishes.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Waste Go Paperless
Reducing your paper mail can be such a freeing action to take -- by reducing what is coming in, you can reduce what is going into the recycling bin too. How does it make you feel? What is the next step you will take to reduce your waste?

I try to go paperless at work where not every order needs to be printed. Even if an order is printed, I try to use the double-sided option in order to reduce the use of paper.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Energy Choose LED Bulbs
Changing lightbulbs is an excellent first step toward energy efficiency! In what other ways can you exercise your civic duty to protect the environment and reduce carbon emissions?

bibi henna Soobadur 10/08/2019 7:45 AM
We replaced 12 bulbs to LED ones at home. I learnt that apart from being brighter, it converts 95% energy into light and only 5% wasted as heat.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Waste Use Reusable Bags
What do you do if you find yourself in the situation of needing a bag for items but don't have a reusable one with you? Carry things out in your hands? In a cart? Accept a disposable one? If you find yourself in this position often, what system could you put in place to try to create a successful habit of not using plastic bags?

I have been using reusable bags for grocery shopping as it is environmentally friendly and you also save money as you refrain yourself from having to purchase plastic bags at the stores.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Food Reduce Animal Products
Why do people in richer countries eat more meat than people in other places? How does eating more meat affect our planet and other people?

I started my meatless meal yesterday where I have incorporated tons of vegetables together like butternut squash, eggplants grilled and seasoned and served with couscous. Loved it !
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Health Exercise Daily
How can you incorporate other personal values (like quality time with friends or spending time in nature) into your exercise routine?

    bibi henna Soobadur's avatar
bibi henna Soobadur 10/04/2019 7:05 AM
I spared at least 15 mins to go for a walk with my husband in the evening and so far I am liking it.
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Waste Use a Reusable Mug
Maybe you've heard how good it is to switch from a single use coffee cup to a reusable one, but it's just hard to make the switch. What stands in your way of making this a habit? By identifying the challenges, you can begin to work through them to have better success in taking this action. Knowing the difference you are making, how does it make you feel?

We all received a great tumbler at work. This is a great way to start the Eco Challenge. This will limit me from wasting at least a cup per day at the coffee shop and will push me to think more about the environment.
