I'm happy to report that I'm now a contributing member of the crowd-sourced foraging movement! On Saturday, I used the Falling Fruit website as suggested by the "Forage For My Food" challenge. I found some yummy pears that are ripening on my counter right now. The next day I happened upon five amazing apple trees on a public right-of-way, and picked enough for about two pies. These hadn't been marked on the website, so I added them. Thanks Ecochallenge, for inspiring me to get out there and challenge myself to live more sustainably, each and every day!
  • REFLECTION QUESTION
    Nature Forage for My Food
People are motivated to forage for many different reasons: as a source for food, a means of income, to connect with nature, to participate in cultural tradition, transmitting specific ecological knowledge, or as a means of stewarding local and native plant populations. What is your chief motivation for foraging?

I love finding public produce! I knew about the Falling Fruit website, but I hadn't considered all the sociopolitical factors involved with foraging. Thanks, EcoChallenge, for providing great resources to learn more about urban foraging and broadening my perspective on the subject. I'll think of you fondly when I use the Falling Fruit website to find some pears this weekend!

    Water 5-Minute Showers
Five minute showers are an impressive step toward reducing your water footprint. What is the next step you can take?

I shortened my shower today! Instead of zoning out and relaxing in the hot water, I was all business. I have also resolved to install a [low-flow] showerhead with a pause function so that I can easily reduce wasted water.

I definitely need to reduce the length of my showers. I think I can get away with taking shorter, cooler showers if I shower directly after a workout.
