Sadie Silkie 10/23/2019 1:18 PMI can't believe it's the last day already! I am really pleased with how much bike commuting that I was able to do, and adding in 5 minutes of meditation/free thought has been really nice. I definitely struggled with the decluttering, but I did manage to do a little bit last night, and my personal goal to myself is to keep that up over the next few months. Go Team Portland

Sadie Silkie 10/22/2019 11:56 AMTonight is my last chance - I'd better tackle the decluttering! I can't believe time has gone by so fast. Even if I only do one small corner, I'm going to get rid of some stuff tonight. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportation Use Public TransitThe US spends roughly 20% of its federal budget on defense. In contrast, 2% goes to education, 20% goes to social security and 3% goes to transportation infrastructure. Do these numbers surprise you at all? Why or why not? How would you adjust them if you could?
Sadie Silkie 10/22/2019 11:08 AMI'm not too surprised by these numbers. I think I've seen them before. I think that the social security number is about right, but I'd like to see more go to education and transportation and less to defense. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONSimplicity De-Clutter My HomeHow can you prevent yourself from accumulating more things in the future?
Sadie Silkie 10/22/2019 11:07 AMThat's a good question. Throw things out when new things come in? Think twice before I bring something new in. I've thought about telling my kids that they have to donate/recycle/dispose of an existing toy every time that they get a new one, and challenge my husband and I to do the same. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONTransportation Go by BikeHow do your transportation choices affect your engagement in your community? Does your experience differ while walking, riding transit, biking, or driving?
Sadie Silkie 10/21/2019 1:39 PMYes, I'm not sure what exactly it is, but people seem to be amused and slightly pleased when they see me biking. I guess the sight of a mildly overweight middle-aged women slowly sweating up a hill is encouraging? -
REFLECTION QUESTIONSimplicity MeditateWhat would you like to invest more time in reflecting on?
Sadie Silkie 10/21/2019 1:36 PMActually my goal wasn't so much to spend time reflecting on anything in particular, so much as to let my mind wander and have some time not focused on a specific task. -
Sadie Silkie 10/09/2019 10:02 AMSo far, I'm enjoying the busing and biking, but I have yet to start the decluttering.-
Pam Neild 10/10/2019 11:04 AMYou can do it! I haven't done my waste audit yet, but I'm going to do it this weekend. When you do start to declutter be sure to use the Metro Recycling Hotline, SCRAP and ResourcefulPDX (some of my favs) to find where to donate and reuse. Many places will come and pick up from your house, so it's as easy as leaving it on the porch. Good luck!
