Briar's actions
Waste
Reduce Single-Use Disposables
Historically, marginalized and low-income communities live closer to landfills, contributing to a multitude of health problems. I will find out how I can limit single-use items and do my best to limit the waste I generate.
Health
Eliminate Toxic Plastics
I will avoid buying toxic plastics - including polycarbonate, polystyrene and polyvinyl - and instead replace them with bioplastic or durable options.
Transportation
Choose a Carbon Offset
If buying a plane ticket, I will also buy a carbon offset.
Participant Feed
Reflection, encouragement, and relationship building are all important aspects of getting a new habit to stick.
Share thoughts, encourage others, and reinforce positive new habits on the Feed.
To get started, share “your why.” Why did you join the challenge and choose the actions you did?

Briar Schoon 10/23/2019 3:54 PMIt's the last day!!! I'm shedding happy tears! This challenge has given me time to reflect about my busy lifestyle and the need to slow down and focus on waste reduction through meal planning and general mindfulness. Most of the waste I produce is related to me not making time and planning better. When I take time to prepare my meals I am saving money, reducing waste and taking better care of myself. It's been a good three weeks!

Briar Schoon 10/10/2019 10:16 PMI've just been reflecting on time and how for me, this is one of the biggest barriers to cutting out disposables. We all get so busy and forgot to make time to take care of ourselves. The EcoChallenge has pushed me to slow down a little and make time for things like meal prep so that I'm not getting lunch on the go... and that is better for me, my wallet and the environment! -
