Olimpia's actions
Food
Meet My Local Farmers
I will visit my nearest farm to find out who produces my food, and will learn about the quality of life of those who produce my food in other regions of the world to make better choices when I shop.
Community
Raise Money For a Nonprofit
I will raise money to support Ecochallenge.org or another nonprofit.
Community
Join my Neighborhood Association
I will join my neighborhood association or another local group of decision makers.
Water
Eco-friendly Gardening
I will plant native species, landscape with water-efficient plants, and use eco-friendly fertilizers.
Water
Insulate Water Pipes and Water Heater
I will avoid wasting water while waiting for the shower or sink to heat up.
Water
Collect Rain Water
I will create a rain garden or bioswale or use rain barrels to collect water for outdoor watering needs.
Waste
Skip the Straw
Plastic bags and small plastic pieces like straws are most likely to get swept into our waterways. I will keep 1 plastic straw(s) out of the landfill and ocean each day by refusing straws or using my own glass/metal straw.
Food
Plant an Herb Garden
I will plant an herb garden in my home, workplace, or dorm room.
Food
Buy From a Farmers Market
I will purchase produce and meat from a local farmers market or food co-op.
Waste
Compost Food Waste
I will avoid sending up to .69 lbs (.31 kg) of food waste to the landfill each day by composting my food or learning how to.
Waste
Use Reusable Bags
I will not accept any disposable bags when making purchases.
Waste
Advocate For More Food Packaging Options
I will advocate for alternatives to single-use packaging at local grocery stores, markets, at work, or on campus.
Waste
Use a Reusable Mug
I will avoid sending 5 disposable cup(s) to the landfill each day by using a reusable mug.
Waste
Use a Reusable Water Bottle
I will keep 1 disposable plastic bottle(s) from entering the waste stream by using a reusable water bottle.

Research Impact Investing
Using the links provided below, I will research impact investing and determine if it is right for me.

REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Advocate For More Food Packaging OptionsWhat concerns you the most about how we are affecting the planet? Consider both local and global actions.
Olimpia Ruminska 10/15/2019 12:48 AMUnfortunately I have some doubts regarding the trush segragation. I believe in Poland it is not really done properly and although people segregate their trush, all of that goes into one bucket after all. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONSimplicity Research Impact InvestingHow might impact investing help you better live your values?
Olimpia Ruminska 10/15/2019 12:45 AMIt's important to think about the future, not only about here and now. -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Skip the StrawHow could you incorporate other "R's" -- reduce, reuse, refuse, repair, repurpose, etc. -- into your lifestyle?
Olimpia Ruminska 10/10/2019 2:03 AMReduce the waste - in all areas: shopping, cooking, traveling, on one word: in living! -
REFLECTION QUESTIONWaste Use a Reusable MugMaybe you've heard how good it is to switch from a single use coffee cup to a reusable one, but it's just hard to make the switch. What stands in your way of making this a habit? By identifying the challenges, you can begin to work through them to have better success in taking this action. Knowing the difference you are making, how does it make you feel?
Olimpia Ruminska 10/10/2019 1:58 AMIf you want to change something to a habit, you need to thinka bout that and do every day. Within more or less 2 weeks it starts to become a habit - you won't need to thing about it, you will just do it. And this works that wy with everything not only the coffee cup. And what I felt? A big relief! Encaugare everybody to do the same! -
Olimpia Ruminska 10/09/2019 3:58 AMOver 1 year ago we bought water filter to eliminate plastic bottles - I really feel the difference in waste producing, especially during the summer period!
